How much important is mattress, blanket, sleeping position ?

How much important is mattress, blanket, sleeping position ?

In the past month, I've tried sleeping in another room, with the following change

- Trying putting my CPAP machine at different places in the house (to check whether the "oxygen" or "stagnant air" might make me tired)
- Trying with 2 other mattresses
- Trying with a sleeping bag instead of blanket
- Trying with a narrower bed (90 cm wide instead of 160 cm wide)

and I see that my morning and daily fatigue is bigger
- With sleeping bag
- On narrower bed
- In a room of less circulated air.

My newest hypothesis is that in a narrow sleeping bag or narrow bed I don't move easily while sleeping, or my moving at night wakes me up more often. My former hypothesis about air circulation needs to be confirmed more.

Note that in the last PSG, it was observed that I wake up 14 times at night, and maintenance insomnia is allegedly my current issue, after OSA.

Anyone here putting an importance to mattress, bed and blanket ?

Just find the combination that works for you and monitor how well you feel and whether Sleepyhead agrees. What anyone else does re bedding or anything else is irrelevant. But stop focusing on air circulation - try to have a relatively decent and comfortable environment and then leave it alone. Change only one feature at a time so you can sort out which ones are effective or not and find something else in your life to worry about.

Everyone here is happy with uncomfortable mattresses, beds and blankets.

Your sleep set up is probably one of the most important things in life. I am one picky SOB when it comes to pillows. I travel with mine even though it's bulky. I have slept in the same two positions my whole life. It takes me hours to fall asleep on my back - I don't even waste my time trying.

Yes. Once I got the CPAP thang' down, it occurred to me that I spend one third of my life in bed (not literally, folks). I bought what I thought (and still think) is the best mattress made.... a Temperpedic. It took about 3 days to get used to, but now every room in our house has a Temperpedic in it. My firefighter son is about to move out and he thinks he is taking his (my) bed with him.

I am sleep-training my kids, therefore currently I have to sleep with a sleeping bag next to their bed, and I am surprised how tired I am.

I'm 40 now, and believe me I grew up very poor (no mattress at all).

CPAP machine's displayed AHI is always < 1.0, I stopped looking at SleepyHead and video recording since 2 months, after listening to doctors around me that I should pay less attention to my sleep (so that I don't make things unnecessarily big).

Well, there's your answer right there--parenting young children is an exhausting occupation, even for those who don't need CPAP therapy. Good sleep is one of those things that we often sacrifice to meet our children's competing needs.

Thank goodness there are lots of positive compensations that make child-rearing so worthwhile Make the most of those moments, and keep on with your CPAP therapy. Do you have anyone available who could spell you off on the sleep-training so you could get some nights to yourself in your own room?

Always get the most comfortable mattress (especially with a sleep condition) and shoes that you can afford, if you're not in one, you're generally in the other - good luck!

To papzombie,

Look at Sleepy Head to see how many sleep interruptions (potty breaks) you take per night. Also, look at your RERA's. From what I can tell, those are events that are less than ten seconds (meaning that they don't qualify as hypopneas), but they still fragment your sleep. The definition of hypopnea was set a long time age (when a lot less was known and equipment was not as accurate).
