Thank You

Post by bt_rox88 » Sun Feb 05, 2017 10:51 am

Just wanted to thank everyone for helping me get started. A little over a week ago, I restarted with my sleep apnea treatment and I came to this board for help. I received great advice from many contributors. I also purchased an auto cpap machine as recommended by someone from this group. I don't know what my official AHI number was, but my wife told me that once per minute I would stop breathing for 10-20 seconds, and then the whole bed would shake when I started breathing again. One week into my therapy I am now able to sleep a little bit with the mask on, it seems that I can handle it for about 5-6 hours. The last 3 nights my AHI has been 5.1, 6.8 and last night it was 2.6. I really do feel a lot different, and yesterday I noticed that even during the day that breathing was easier. I know I still have a long way to go, but with this forum's help I am on my way.

Here is my sleepyhead for last night.

You are doing well, but I personally would raise your low pressure of 4 to e.g. 6 or 7 as it would give the machine a better chance of catching up when it needs to stop events at higher levels.

The 4 cm starting point isn't really impacting things all that much because once the machine goes up in pressure it never really comes back down to 4 cm....the lowest point was maybe barely 6 for a very short time with the bulk of the night the pressure staying up around 9 cm or so pretty much all night.
Watch the top line on the pressure graph...the bottom line just reflects the exhale relief.
Given all this and the little bit of clutter seen (the snores, FLs and RERAs) if you want to reduce those things then probably a starting point of up around 8 will be needed because they are happening at up around 8 ish anyway.

Now if your machine was repeatedly dipping back down closer to that 4 cm and having to go back up again repeatedly then that 4 cm starting point would likely be playing a bigger factor...so if you see that on your other reports...for sure increase that minimum.
From looking at just this one report...the 4 cm minimum is having a minimal impact on the overall night because you were never really close to it again except at the end of the night when I assume you were probably awake.

All in all a very decent report for someone just 1 week into therapy and there's no urgent need to change anything but at some time later if you want to tweak things a little to better clean up the "clutter" (which isn't horrible but I would want to clean it up a bit if it were me) if the clutter persists...most likely will need at least a starting point minimum up closer to 8 cm.
I am using that number because it looks like the clutter is happening anyway when up around that number.
Might even need a bit higher.

Holy cow. That worked. So this is what sleep feels like. I should have tried it years ago.

I bumped the min up to 8 and that seems to have done the trick. I slept for over 7 hours. No tossing and turning, no waking up, just solid sleep. I can't explain how much better I feel.

Thanks,
BT
