I have have gone to the sleep doctor recommended by my cardiologist who diagnosed sleep apnea. However, I probably won't go back to her for 2 reasons:
1. She was very much against having pets. I have 2 cats and they are like children to me - I am NOT getting rid of them. This is non-negotiable. I rather die first.
2. I inquired about the possibility of doing an at home sleep study or using an apap machine to avoid going to a sleep center (the idea of which gives me a lot of anxiety). However, she insisted that i have a sleep study in order to continue working with me.
I've been under a lot of stress lately and I believe my sleep apnea is getting worse (for example there are times I wake up out of breath).
Can anyone please recommend a good sleep doc in Queens, NY or Long Island?
Tyvm in advance for your help.

That is weird that your Dr. was adamant about pets...
It highly depends on your insurance. Long Island Jewish Hospital might be a good place to check out. https://www.northwell.edu/find-care/fin ... d-11312085

While he practices in The Bronx, forum member sypark is a sleep doc on staff at Montefiore. Montefiore occupies a unique place in sleep medicine as one of the premier training grounds for the discipline. See: http://www.montefiore.org/sleep-wake-disorders for more information. For more about Dr. Park See: http://www.montefiore.org/body.cfm?id=1 ... l&ref=3946 and http://doctorstevenpark.com/ If you need a sleep doc in NYC he may offer a more friendly perspective to the situation.hissspitgrowl wrote: Can anyone please recommend a good sleep doc in Queens, NY or Long Island?

Use an internet service for a home sleep study. They will provide a diagnosis and a prescription for a CPAP if needed.hissspitgrowl wrote:at home sleep study

If you are prescribed a CPAP, be sure to check back with forum members on an acceptable model and how to optimize the settings.

Know that the home sleep test is probably less stressful than the one taken at the sleep facility. I'm not sure of the accuracy, but it should be close enough to get enough data to get you a machine. Go ahead and take the test. Sooner is better than later. What's up with the pets? Tell the doctor you got rid of the critters... but by all means don't do such a thing.. just tell them that.
