Auto CPAP

Post by bt_rox88 » Thu Feb 02, 2017 9:23 pm

Just received my new DreamStation. Pretty stoked to use it. Since this is an Auto CPAP, I don't have to worry about the pressure, right? It knows if I need 4, 10 or up to 25. Right? Just wondering if I need to set this up, or if it just runs on it's own.

Wrong and Wrong.
With a wide-open pressure range, it can take too long for the pressure to get to where it needs to be to prevent apneas. If an apnea is in progress, NO APAP will attempt to stop it. It takes 10 seconds for an Apnea to be identified by the machine's algorithm, so the events are going to take place anyway.

The minimum pressure is the most important and needs to be set to where it prevents almost all of the events.

The pressure recommended by your doctor (re: prescription) should have been loaded by your supplier. If you purchased this on your own, without doctor support, you will need to fumble around using Sleepyhead Software to determine your best setting. Get the Clinical manual for your machine and learn to make your own setting changes.

Ok, thanks. I did purchase this on my own, so I will fumble a little bit. I do have the manual, so I will figure that out.

Ditto to what Den said and add the DreamStation apap won't go to 25....it's max is 20.

Wide open range will/might work well if all you need is around 6 or 7 cm as your maximum...otherwise it's not going to work so great.

Now it is entirely possible that you won't need a lot of pressure...it all depends on the patency of the airway and how much pressure is needed to hold it open.
Some people can get by with as little as 5 cm but the next person might need 20 cm.

Learn about the software and understanding what you see on that software.

Did you have a titration pressure setting or are you doing this on your own? Regular CPAP machines have a maximum of 20 cm pressure. You said you have the manual but is it the user manual or the clinical manual? You need to get the clinical manual and learn about your machine if you don't already have one. You can get one here. Scroll down to section 3 and follow instructions to get one by email. http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Do you have software to evaluate your results? Data is the most important part of titration along with how you feel.

User manual or Provider manual?
If you bought it from an online seller, the Provider manual may have been included.
But. if you don't have the Provider manual, PM me with your email address and I'll send you a copy in .pdf form.
