Plastic smell in RemStar PR System One

Post by GoodNightRest » Fri Jan 27, 2017 1:16 am

Dear All,

I just had a chance to try my new RemStar PR System One Auto CPAP with Bluetooth (this is my spare machine).
I only used it for 2 minutes, and I smell plastic. I use my existing hose, and mask, and I don't use humidifier.
I even tried to replace the black foam filter with my existing one, and the plastic smell remain.

My conclusion is the smell comes from the internal plastic chamber of the machine.
Anybody else experience similar thing with recent purchase of this machine and model?
Should I call and ask the vendor (cpap.com)?

I saw some solutions in the post here (but it happened on different brand - Fisher Paykel):

Or should I try the solutions first?

How about just letting it run for a few hours outside (like an enclosed porch or something)? Get some nice fresh air going through it.

I have this machine and did notice a new plastic smell when I first tested the unit without water in the chamber.
Once I filled with water and used nightly I never noticed the smell again.
did you remove the humidifier and tried the main unit only?
The removable water tank inside the humidifier would be a likely source of new plastic smell.
If you are running it empty of water that could make it even worse.
Depending on the settings it may be turning the humidifier on if it's in Auto humidifier mode and heating the empty plastic water tank.

Google aromatherapy for cpap.

Hi jtravel, I bought the machine without the humidifier. Just the main machine itself.

Thanks chunkyfrog, aromatherapy is nice.
But I wouldn't use it to solve this plastic smell as it will only cover up the smell.
My main concern is a possible health hazard from the plastic smell.

I've got the same machine as the OP and the first two nights I also had the smell. It was gone by night three.
