So Clean

Post by vipertec » Fri Jan 27, 2017 9:50 am

I was wondering if anyone else here is using a SoClean pap disinfecting device , I was getting sinus infections on a regular basis ( I'm kinda lazy with cleaning my pap hose ) and I saw a blurb on this device and decided to check it out , I could use my FSA card to pay for it so I decided to try it out , well so far after 8 month and not a single infection when I have 1 or 2 by now and have to go through a round of antibiotics , I still have to wash my mask cushion everyday but I can deal with that no problem , it has been well worth the investment.

For what it's worth, I stopped getting sinus infections and bronchitis as soon as I started CPAP 6 years ago. And I've never cleaned the hose, and only rinse out the mask when it looks dirty. And as for filters, I wash them in the sink with dishwashing detergent maybe a few times a year. I DO shower every day, and brush my teeth, and live in a clean home, so I'm not a total pig. However, I don't always wear underwear.

There are some, I believe, unscrupulous vendors who are advertising on late night TV for CPAP cleaning devices. It's just my opinion, but unless your immune system is really weak, or something else about your situation is really out of spec., you shouldn't need it.

I never have cleaned my hose in the 2+ years I have been using it. Rarely wash my mask cushions...only wipe nightly with baby wipes.
Never have had a sinus infection...in fact I can remember only 1 bad cold since I have been using CPAP...8 years. If you are happy with SoClean, it was a good investment for you.

Yes, going commando has stopped my sinus infections and colds as well . . .

Just kidding. I am not a "So Clean" user. Decided against it after reading a number of threads here. Though I've only been on CPAP a few months, my hose has never been washed and my mask/nose pillows only a couple times a week (if I remember). So far, no issues. But I am also not freaked out about germs. Reading through the threads here, it's made sense to me that if the incoming air is clean (clean filter) and you're using distilled water, the odds of getting sick from something growing in your machine are just about nil.

I agree completely!
Better yet, the money you save by avoiding the snake oil salesmen!

Lots of discussions about them.

I would be suspicious that your sinus infections were coming from other sources.
Personally, I wouldn't waste my money. I hear they're better at cleaning out the checkbook than anything else.

Hi - little challenge - you say it works for you, so I challenge you to not use it for a few weeks and see if anything changes. Clean your mask as usual (baby wipes are sufficient daily, mild soap and water weekly or monthly), don't bother with the hoses - total waste of time - and change your filters as instructed. Wipe the machine's outside with a little cloth. You have told yourself (or let yourself be told) that 'SC works', but have not tested that. When or whether you happened to be sick at some time prior to using SC isn't relevant... what's relevant is that using Cpap is what's kept you well, not that ozone nonsense.

I use mild soap daily on my mask cushion . I change my filters every month ,and I've been using CPAP everyday since I got my first machine in 2009 .When I first started out I washed everything on a regular basis ,now I don't wash the hose or water box to often ,I may have been getting the sinus infection s from something else entirely ,so I wanted to give this this a try to see if it helps .
Boy rough crowd ,I'm sorry I asked !!!

We just don't like it when people get sucked in by these crooks.
Money does not grow on bushes in the back yard, and dang few of us can afford to waste any.

My medical experiment has been running longer than yours. 15 years using CPAP without SoClean and not a single sinus infection nor any kind of infection that required antibiotics.

There are a few forum members here who admit to using the SoClean. They usually get the same sort of responses that you got so there may be a few more but in general most of us don't use the SoClean. We don't feel it is necessary and most feel it is a waste of money.
If you are happy with your purchase for whatever reason then that's wonderful. It's pretty much a done deal right now that can't be undone anyway.
Don't expect to get many (if any) responses from anyone who uses it....there's not many forum members who do use it that are active on the forum right now.

If you decide to not use it for a while and sinus symptoms return....I would look at the humidity setting before I started blaming it on germs not being nuked.
