SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
I am new to SleepyHead. I installed it from here https://sleepyhead.jedimark.net/ on my Windows 10 laptop.
The program mostly works. I can import and review data from my ResMed S9 Autoset.
The problem is the top menu line (File/View/Data/Help) is not accessible. When I click on a selection, say "File," the selection is highlighted but the menu option doesn't open. Pressing Alt -- Letter doesn't work either. I can only exit by pressing Cntr/Alt/Delete.
The second menu line: Welcome/Statistics/Daily/Overview/Help Browser works fine.
Any ideas on how to make my program fully functional? I've tried an uninstall and reinstall and that didn't help.
Bob

Re: SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
I have never heard of the "File" option not wanting to work properly. This is a first.
It's not a common bug at all. I have no idea how to fix it.
You might want to try an older SleepyHead version. You won't be missing much because the main advantage to the latest version is the DreamStation compatibility which doesn't matter since you are using a ResMed machine.
http://sleepfiles.com/SH/files/testing/
You can find the prior version here. Windows 10 will be the bottom link.
You may get a message about a missing dll file the first time you try to open SH...if you do come back here and let me know and I will go find the instructions for fixing the missing dll thing.

I don't have Win 10 but I know sometimes the updates screw things up. Pugsy compare your version/service pack level to the OPs and others having problems.

This computer used to have Windows 8.1 on it and I updated it to Windows 10 last summer I guess it was.Guest wrote:I don't have Win 10 but I know sometimes the updates screw things up. Pugsy compare your version/service pack level to the OPs and others having problems.
This version of SleepyHead was used back when I had Windows 8.1. Worked fine.
It also worked find on another computer with Windows 7 on it and also updated to Windows 10 last summer.
I have no idea about the service packs but using Windows 10 Home on this laptop.
I doubt it is a Windows issue though...SleepyHead is just buggy for some people and not others.
The "File" option menu not being accessible...that's a new bug and I have no idea how to fix it.
Since the DreamStation machine isn't being used the easiest fix is just use version 0.9.8.1 and see if the File option works. If it does work then it isn't a Windows version issue.

Re: SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
While that is true I believe all the problems I saw mentioned tonite mention Win 10.Pugsy wrote:just use version 0 9 8 1 and see if the File option works. If it does work then it isn't a Windows version issue.
Re: SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
If the File option works with version 0.9.8.xxx on the Windows 10 computer then it is unlikely that Windows 10 is the culprit.Guest wrote:While that is true I believe all the problems I saw mentioned tonite mention Win 10.
The culprit is probably some weird little bug with something in the SH software not playing nice with something on the computer which may or may not be related to the Windows version.
Back when all we had was 0.9.8xxxx it had its own set of annoying bugs which some of those got worked out with this latest version but then the latest version came with some other bugs.
I don't know how to fix this particular bug. Don't know if it is related to Windows 10 or something else somewhere on the computer. All I know to do is offer another version to try to see if it will work decently or not. If it will work...use the older version. The data gathered and shows won't change and you don't lose anything by using the slightly older version anyway.
I lack the computer skills to try to go dig out what the problem with this bug might be. That's far above my skill level.
If uninstall and reinstall doesn't fix things...time to try something else...that's all I would do if it were me.
Mark (the guy who came up with SleepyHead) has taken another vacation from doing any more work on SleepyHead and we have no idea when he will be back to do some bug killing. So it is what it is.
I was never involved in that part of the SH construction process so I am just like everyone else...if it won't work...get something else to try.
Now the File option contents...it really may not be all that critical to have it available. I only use the Preferences part of mine and I wouldn't have to use it.
If that's all that is broken there's nothing in the File menu that is a deal maker or breaker.

Re: SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
Thx for all the attempts to help.
I did try to install the prior version but got the missing dll error. I'm not really interested in trying to debug this further, especially if I'm not losing any real functionality in the program by losing that top menu.
From what I've read on this forum, I believe the Sleephead software is the best option for me, even if I've not able to use the file menu. Please let me know if I'm wrong about that.

By the way, I added my equipment (ResMed S9 Autoset) to my profile. Thought I had done that before but apparently not.

Re: SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
Preference menu choices are the main thing that you can't get to in the File section.
Anything else is easy to work around.
The missing dll file necessary for version 0.9.8 is found here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=40784
You will have to click on the download button to get the options as I can't seem to link to that page directly.
choose the middle file....there's 3 files to choose from...get the middle one.
Just download it and install it from your download area. No need to try to direct it to SleepyHead directly....just let it install where it defaults to. SleepyHead will know to look for it in it's regular place anyway.
That should fix things so that SH 0.9.8xx will open properly.
Not having the File options in Beta 1.0.0xxxx is annoying but you aren't missing anything urgent and it doesn't affect the data calculations or accuracy in your situation. If you were using a Respironics machine the only thing that would be a problem would be the red line leak number since it defaults to a ResMed leak default line.
Your choice on how you wish to deal with things.

Thx for your excellent coaching. Version 0.9.8 now working without a hitch. Menus all working properly.
Now I've just got to learn how to interpret all this data!

Re: SleepyHead Freezing Help Needed
It's great to ask here about issues, but don't forget to file a bug with the author. That's the only way that bugs get actually resolved in the code. See the following for details and guidelines on how to do that.

As it turns out, his bug tracker is down for maintenance right now, but presumably it will come back up at some point.

Mark works on SleepyHead when he gets around to it. It's hit or miss and right now he's in the "miss" stage and has been for quite some time. Don't hold your breath on getting any bugs fixed anytime soon.linuxman wrote:As it turns out, his bug tracker is down for maintenance right now, but presumably it will come back up at some point.
Glad to here you have SH up and running. You aren't missing anything critical in terms of data by using the older version.cpapbob wrote:Thx for your excellent coaching. Version 0.9.8 now working without a hitch. Menus all working properly.

As for learning how to interpret the data....stick with understanding the basics like AHI and leak.
SleepyHead gives you a lot of graphs that simply aren't needed.
I have a little tutorial about the basics (look in the top Announcements section on the main forum page) that will help get you started with the basics. Take a stroll through it and then come back with any questions that need clarification.

Ah, fair enough. Such is the way with open source software. I work professionally in Linux, so I know how it goes. I'd offer some help to him, but I've got way too many other balls in the air.Pugsy wrote:Mark works on SleepyHead when he gets around to it.
