Does it make a difference?

Post by alphabettie » Thu Sep 07, 2006 3:59 am

First off, I have two machines that I use since I travel: PB 420e and Vantage. The PB gives me and AHI of 2.1 or less per night. The Vantage is more like 8.4 AHI per night. Does this matter? Since I feel pretty good except for too much work and travel, I just use them and go with how I feel. I tend to want to use the PB because it scores me better. I am only human afterall. Does anyone else get funny readings like this. The AI index on both is very low...below one. It is the hypops for Vantage that get me. Any thoughts anyone?

You may need to provide more info in order for anyone to answer your question.

I don't know anything about the PB ... but are you using auto mode or straight CPAP?

What pressure value(s) were you titrated for (ie. your prescription)?

Are you using the same mask for both machines?

You mention that you use one for travel and one for home ... could it be you sleep better at home?

Some of the more expert forum members may also be able to provide you more info if you have a sleep study report that you can refer to for more specific details about your OSA.

Good luck and take care.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

You are using the best indicator, which is how you feel. The differences are probably driven by the different algorythmns used by the machines. One is probably more agressive towards hypos than the other. Also the Resmed has mask specific settings, which could make it more sensitive than just the single setting the PB has.

Because you feel the same with both you are probably okay. The only thing you might want to check is the leak data on the Resmed. You might be mouth breathing because of the different machine reaction to your events. I would suggest you download the data from the Resmed and check just to be on the safe side.

Differences

As Mike correctly pointed out, ResMeds are notorious for aggressively scoring hypops. However, they are also notorious for artifactually scoring SDB events, particularly hypops, during wakefulness. So, if you haven't done so already, you might want to enable "Settling" on your Vantage for the period of time it takes you normally to fall asleep AND NO LONGER. That will disable the algorithm during that period of time when you are in bed and settling into sleep and prevent the S8 Vantage from artifactually scoring hypops that it thinks occur while you're awake. Remember though, that it also won't provide treatment pressure adjustments during that time, so make sure to set it for ONLY as long as it takes you to fall asleep.

When I finally figured this out for my S8 Vantage, my HIs plummeted, and my AHI dropped beneath 5 and stayed there for the first time since I started xPAP treatment.

Hope this helps!

I use only the Activa mask. I have switched them out so they are not one solely used for travel. I have both set autopap at 11.4 to 17.4; I was titrated at 12 straight, but it did not work. My 90 percentile is about 15.4. Leak is .06 or less. Vantage is set for Activa. I tape my mouth. Thanks for your reply. Deb
