Thanks for all of the replies and valuable info. My first chemo and radiation session was yesterday. Everything went well, and I know what to start expecting as possible side effects in the future.

I probably wasn't as clear in my post as I should have been. My concern was centered around the cleanliness of the cpap mask. I, like many, don't clean it as often as I should, and I use it absolutely every single night since I started. The benefit of SLEEP far outweighed the awkwardness of the device. In the past (before cpap) I would get sinus infections often from allergies and dust. When I began cpap I was expecting similar infections, but absolutely non of that has happened for me. I am just paranoid that my reduced immune system might be a reason for something to happen in my throat/trachea/lungs.

After reading the replies, I am confident I'm in a good mindset and will make a couple tweaks to my habits and activities to be proactive.

Again, I appreciate all the knowledge.

Before my hair started to fall out, my scalp became very tender. I realized that part of the problem could be the CPAP headgear, so I started putting on a Lycra swim cap before I put on my headgear. The smooth surface of the cap (worn inside out) keeps the headgear from rubbing the scalp and follicles. That helped a lot!
