how long is a reasonable wait for a dme after they have your prescription to supply your cpap machine.

For many of us, using the words "reasonable" and "DME" in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

However, to try to answer your question, it may depend on how available the specific machine required may be.
If the specific type of machine is on hand and in stock (straight CPAP or APAP), it can be a matter of minutes to hours.
If the machine is a specialized type......such as a specific Bi-Level or ASV.......it could be days to weeks.
Consequently, it's a little difficult to answer without additional information.

Another thing--it is not unusual for them to make you wait for a bit too long,
so that you will accept the first machine they bring you-- even if it is an obsolete POS.
Be prepared to wait longer if necessary to get the RIGHT machine.

I had an appointment with in days and left with the machine.

Do your research. Decide which machine you will accept and don't take any machine which does not provide detailed AHI and leak data. Your health is more important then their profit.

I walked into the DME and walked out with my equipment. The day after the meeting with my MD to discuss the result of my sleep study.

i have been down this road one time before year ago i was told what a great dme crapria was, i had my research on the machine but not on the dme. i was set up with resmed airsense 10 auto machine and a n10 nasal mask. due to chronic nasal polyps and moderate to severe asthma i was not able to get the required hours to keep the machine and finding out crapria was trying to double and triple bill me. i had to turn the machine back in or pay for it myself. my asthma doc wanted me to start again on cpap i have no problem with this, rotech was suggested in this area to have good service so i am trying to be patient. i have waited a just over a week and i have been wondering about the average wait.
i never had not one single problem with machine settings or masks. it took to it like a duck to water and when i was clear enough to use it, it made a big difference.

Griz: I am experiencing the same thing as you are. I have the attitude like LSAT. As soon as I find out the DME has the authorization, I'm gonna go pick the machine up... if they have it. People please forgive me (really!)... I deal with Crapria, and I'm certain they will have the machine in stock since it is very popular. Ok, folks, we can go back to cussin' Crapria.

Griz: I will only pick my machine up. Of course, after I check the stock number. Are you waiting on an appointment to have the DME give you a tour of the machine or are you just picking it up?

Are you trying to get an APAP? Will they give you one? Make sure it's an Autoset if you're going ResMed.

Always pays to do your homework.

I just had to wait about a month. The DME I had been using transferred their Medicare accounts to another DME. My doctor's office didn't want me to use the new DME, they wanted me to use one they were associated with, but that DME didn't supply ResMed gear, which I wanted. Too bad, the new DME contacted the doctor's office, for the prescription, but that stated a series of events of each one accusing the other of not returning calls, and not properly filling out forms. We finally got everyone talking to each other, and the machine was shipped... across country, which took almost a week.

When I got my first machine, the doctor wrote out an Rx and sent me the DME where they handed me a machine.
