Woke up at night with tremendous pressure and mask leaking

Post by britinjapan » Fri Dec 02, 2016 5:22 pm

I`m on my third night with my new Icon+, but same full face mask. I woke up more than once on tremendous pressure, and my mask was going `pop` `pop` around my chin. I switched the machine off, and it seemed to solve the issue. What happened here? Is it that the machine sensed it needed pressure, but for some reason this was just too much. So much for the sensawake feature, as that should have sensed I awoke, and adjusted!?

I can't comment on your particular machine but a similar thing happened to me a few years ago. My machine (PR 750 Auto BiPap) suddenly during the night switched to the maximum pressure it was capable of producing ( 25 cm H2O.) In my case, I was using an Oracle mask without headgear (headgear is optional for this mask.) The mask blew off and I was wakened by the event.

It happened a couple of more times and I sent the machine back to Respironics for repair. It was replaced and the events didn't recur.

I'm using a different machine now (PR 960 ASV) and it regularly gets to 25 cm H2O operating normally so I always use headgear to avoid this effect.
