Raise it by 1. Watch it for a week. Read the card.
See how the avg AHI for the week compares with before the change.
See how often you reach the max.
Iterate if necessary.
Why have prescription maximums (at least initially)?
Re: Why have prescription maximums (at least initially)?
Some really strange things have been happening since my sleep onset insomnia has been resolved for almost 2 weeks now. But, I am so grateful for sleeping longer and better and I DO feel better.
last night, I slept deeper than I ever remember. I remember waking up 3 or 4 times (more than normal for me). One time, I woke up with my mask off and lying next to me on the pillow. I have no idea if I took it off in my sleep or if it just came off (which is unlikely). I don't remember at all why it was off. I just put it back on, but was so groggy I had trouble getting it on right, then went back to sleep. I find this upsetting because, in 15 months of xPAP, I have never taken the mask off in my sleep. I hope this doesn't get to be a habit. In fact I looked at my Sleepyhead report this morning to be sure it wasn't just a dream. It was not, there was a break of about an hour and forty-five minutes.
The other 2 or 3 times I woke up, I remember having some large leaks and extremely dry mouth and throat and probably woke up because I needed to swallow and wet my mouth.
My sleepyhead reports are a little different when I don't have the sleep onset insomnia. The AHI is a little higher, usually between 1 and 2. I have many more large leaks. But I feel a lot better and have been able to get into a better sleep cycle. But I do seem to wake up a lot more after I fall asleep with problems like leaks, reflux in my throat, and needing to swallow and wet my mouth. When I have sleep onset insomnia, I may lay awake (or sometimes get up several times) for about 3 hours, but do not wake up once I have fallen asleep.
