What more checks I should do to my brain

Post by jaw » Sun Oct 16, 2016 7:20 am

So it's me with 6 months on CPAP, good AHI, still fogginess, memory, concentration, fatigue, slow thinking.

Thanks to excellent suggestions on this forum, I have done an MRI check with the focus on "white/grey matter and some other atrophies", in 8 days I am going to discuss that with a neurologist. Do you think I should ask her to pay more attention to which parts of my brain ?.

I don't think that doctors around me know about what OSA causes to the brain as well as people here on this forum. I need to lead my doctors to catch up with the latest research in this.

The list I have at this moment

- White matter integrity: a research paper done by Vincenza Castronovo mentions that it can take up to 12 months for that White Matter to "recover"
- Hippocampus (suggested by Ronald Harper's group)
- Mammalian body (suggested by Ronald Harper's group)
- Some set of fibers that come out of hippocampus (suggested by Ronald Harper's group, according to viewtopic.php?f=1&t=110249&start=30). what's its name ?

The list of chemicals to check that I have just learned yesterday from this forum: Glutamate and GABA viewtopic.php?f=1&t=110439&st=0&sk=t&sd=a, I don't think that MRI was able to detect it. This is important because it causes my lack of concentration, which is thought to be ADHD by my GP.

The neurologist's original plan (before this MRI) was: "if this MRI shows no abnormalities, then a neurological expectation management need to be done with the patient. If in the future this patient would have more complaints, then can consider a neuro-psychological research"

Questions:
- Can the MRI detect damage in Hippocampus, mammalian body and "fibers that come out of hippocampus" ?
- Is the technique to detect abnormalities in Glutamate and GABA in my brain too advanced that only can be done in UCLA or the US ?
- What more to discuss with the neurologist then ? What can I request her to do more ?
- Not specifically to my brain, but since the shortage of Thiamine and Magnesium is mentioned by Ronald Harper in viewtopic.php?f=1&t=110439&st=0&sk=t&sd=a, is it easy to check for Thiamine and Magnesium in my blood ?

Thanks alot.

You have been reading too much without understanding.
Small wonder you are scared.
Ask your doctor for something for your anxiety.
Cpap works, but you have to give it time and
LET IT WORK.

And what will you DO if you even actually prove your white matter's bad? No one is going to repair it for you, so you need to concentrate on doing what you can to help. You're losing what marbles you have left in all this speculative nonsense to no useful end.

Uh.. well.. actually, I kinda thought that's what we were doing (in secret of course). Can't let the patients in on everything!

Hi Jaw,

As one who has some mysterious medical issues that I developed while on psych meds that so far have not been resolved, I understand your obsession with trying to find answers. But all you are going to do is drive yourself nuts with the endless possibilities.

I know this is easier said than done but write down all the possibilities you think regarding the issues that may be contributing to your problems and then prioritize what you think is most likely and work on that. For example, you mentioned the possibility of various lab tests and checking out whether they are normal or not. That seems like a good place to start.

Just so you know, I need to apply this advice to my own situation as I have been all over the place because I get so frustrated. So writing this message to you has give me incentive to start practicing what I preach.

Best of luck to you.

The important thing to remember is that no one fully understands
the inner workings of the human brain; not even those who study it for a lifetime.
We all have to face the ravages of age and disease; if we are lucky enough to live that long.
We either accept and adjust or suffer all the more.
Inner peace is highly underrated.
Use your faith (if applicable), or envelop yourself in the love around you. My best to you.
