Even MORE Fatigued After Using Cpap?
Re: Even MORE Fatigued After Using Cpap?
First post, quick history had sleep study due to DOT and my BMI, and to make wifey happy. Had some disturbingly high results and been using my CPAP for about a month. Never had issues with day time sleepyness before wouldn't feel great when I woke up but didn't get tired through the day. Now I wake up and feel great, awake alert and generally in a good mood. But after 3-4 hours I feel like I hit a wall, I get tired, not fall asleep at the wheel tired but if a nice recliner I don't think I could stay awake. I have virtually no leaks, AHI is 0-1, and usage or 6-8 hrs a night, wake up once or twice a night Hit the head and right back asleep. I was hoping it was a transition adjustment and it would get better. Anyone else have issues like this? Or have advice? Thanks for reading and I look forward to any input

Re: Even MORE Fatigued After Using Cpap?
I've been reading more and plan on getting Sleepyhead, but can't till I go home from work so that's 10 days away. Maybe that could shed a little more light. I just hope to find a solution as it's definTely getting worse the longer I use the machine.and the way work is picking up this is going to be challenging

you don't think at all. leaks have nothing to do with AHI, and for that matter,
if they're too bad, they can artificially mask AHI problems. like everything you post, this is stupid.

...I would guess I am a sophomore now and not a real newbie. While I was still just trying to work with my first mask I had read about the possible inaccuracies caused by large leaks.
...but I was just hoping leaks would get better.
THEN ... the insurance decided I was due for another mask. I made a slight change in my mask and magically my leaks that I thought were just because of *me* ... dropped DRAMATICALLY. hmmmm? so maybe it was the mask (but still on *me* for not resolving the leak issue sooner!)
One reason I did not worry so much about my leaks is that I had a pretty darn good AHI. It was in the zeros most nights. 0.6 - 0.9 ... with AHI like that and the leaks weren't waking me so except for reading sentiments like this gem I quoted above from Palerider ... I thought I was OK.
As I said, a month or so ago I got the mask leak situation to improve and was HAPPY ... but ...
but? The new truth isn't quite so good.
...now I assume what is my TRUE AHI is showing.
I am hovering just below 2 now.
damn mask leak ...
...but at least knowing what is going on and having more accurate data and comparing it to how I FEEL each day is helping me to make adjustments.
I still take this all as good news.
I am feeling definite improvement.
....and because of the shared wisdom here on cpaptalk and my continuing efforts to educate myself (albeit slowly) I have reason to believe that there is more improvement yet to come.
I am sure there are some who could have figured all of this out for themselves with just simply being given a cpap machine.
There is NO WAY I would be where I am right now without the generous help of the folks who post here.
I am ashamed to say that left to my own with no guidance I would have just quit.
...imagine ... having the machine .... being *thisclose* to help ... and failing at the one yard line.
I'll take ANY COACH who helps me score!
bring on the bad words and even a kick in the a$$ ...
*I* want to being doing the 'YAY ME DANCE' in the in zone.
disclaimer: I know nothing of football so those analogies may be mangled.
...as I dial in on my treatment and get real results of AHI below 1 again with no mask leaks
I expect my analogies to improve significantly.

Ok, I wondered (couldn't remember from previously) if your setting was especially low... e.g. 4-6. Have you tried turning the ramp off entirely, or at least lowering it by a lot?
Re: Even MORE Fatigued After Using Cpap?
It was initially set for 30 min and I've been dropping it every week. Trying 10 min tonightJulie wrote:Ok, I wondered (couldn't remember from previously) if your setting was especially low... e.g. 4-6. Have you tried turning the ramp off entirely, or at least lowering it by a lot?

Most of us dropped the ramp (not the low pressure setting) altogether within the first week of use...

How many times were you urinating before CPAP?tommie1 wrote:.....And urinating about 3 times a night is definitely an indication that the cpap treatment is NOT working well? Whew................

Mine is not set up for a low pressure setting, all 11, all nightJulie wrote:Most of us dropped the ramp (not the low pressure setting) altogether within the first week of use...

Re: Even MORE Fatigued After Using Cpap?
I was urinating just about hourly before CPAP since high school, before I gained weight. and have never been able to sleep on my back. If I do when I wake up all the soft tissue and uvula was so swollen i had to lean forward while standing to not gag or close off my airway while awake. But even with all that I was never tired during the day until beginning therapy
