Sleep Onset CSA vs. Central Sleep Apnea

Post by hotshot429 » Sun Oct 09, 2016 3:53 am

When wearing my CPAP I feel that I may be having sleep onset central sleep apnea that is causing me to wake in discomfort (I suddenly gasp for air). Every person that I have spoken to has agreed that this is likely something that is entirely in my mind and will resolve in time. However, it has been 3 months and has continue to persist. My optimum pressure is anywhere between 9 cm/H2O to 12 cm/H2O. Anything less and it seems my AHI increases and anything greater and tolerance becomes a problem. I could not find anywhere in the search bar of this particular topic, so I wanted to start a new thread to possible see if this is something that others have experienced?

I do not have a copy of my download information handy and I could not get SleepyHead to work for my Respironics Dreamstation. My Encore software is no longer available to me. With that, I did a download three months ago when this problem persisted through Encore and could not find anything unusual under my detailed data other than a minimal central that looked to be at sleep onset, hence why I present this question to the forum.

Is this something normal? What remedies do you feel could be available?

"Dreamstation" is not specific. There are four models. Which model do you have? http://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/p ... apy-system

Which version of SleepyHead did you install? The most recent version will work with all the DreamStation machines.
Version 1.0.0 beta 2
If that is what you have then can you tell us what part of it leads you to believe it won't work?

You will need Encore Pro (the latest version) to use it for DreamStation machines.
I don't think Encore Basic will work unless there is a newer version of Basic that I am not aware of.
If you want to get Pro send me a private message.

About sleep onset centrals...they are considered normal and not a problem unless there is a huge number of them or they are causing desats or they keep bouncing a person out of sleep.
They will show up on the reports as Clear Airway apneas. If you don't see much on the reports then you are unlikely to be having enough to be a problem.

Thank you Pugsy. I know much of sleep onset centrals. My main problem is the discomfort that they are giving me at sleep onset. I do not have then often enough to be considered a true central apnea. However, there can be a day, to two days, per week that they wake at sleep onset causing me to have a slight panic and awaken. I cannot find that this is normal or something that typically happens. I will send you a message on acquiring Encore Pro.
