Staring to have acne around where my mask sits
So I have been on CPAP for over a month now and it gets rather hot here and I wake up with sweat around where my mask sits and I think it is causing to have acne break outs where my mask sits. Any suggestions on how to deal with that?
Re: Staring to have acne around where my mask sits
First of all, wash the mask - at least the part that comes in direct contact with the affected areas - with soap and water every time you finish using the machine. Wash you face as well at that time.
Also, when you change the mask or the part in question, soak the new mask (or face piece) in 50% vinegar solution for at least an hour.

I have the same problem. I wash my mask and face before using but it doesn't matter. My solution was to alternate masks (2 different styles), that way it's not sitting on the same spot night after night. I wouldn't recommend washing or soaking your mask in vinegar or anything with a strong smell because it can linger around for a long time and irritate nose and throat.

Wash your face with a non-comedogenic soap (https://www.google.com/search?q=Non-Com ... 8&oe=utf-8) just before bed each night. A mask liner will help keep your mask cool in summer; and make it warm and cuddly in winter.
It will also extend the life of the cushion on your mask.
Her liners are washable and reusable for quite a long time.

A quick trial to see if a cover would work.........
Take a well washed white t-shirt, lay it flat and place your mask on it. Now trace your mask onto the fabric .... adding about 3/4 of an inch all round. Cut this out and then cut a mouth and nose hole so that you can breath through it. Voila!!! you have a soft fabric between the mask and your face to sop up any sweat or face oils. Karen's padacheek liners are made of much more durable fabric and are made to fit each mask type differently, as Chunkyfrog said, they can be washed and dried almost indefinitely. I have had one for every ffm I have owned and recommend them to anyone who complains about their mask. Hint.. hint.. they also cut the sound of any mask farts and leaks you have. its a win, win!
Cheers

You can even cut a liner out of a soft Viva paper towel.

I wouldn't do this. When I first started using my cpap I tried cleaning it with vinegar....not a good thing. Left red burn marks on sides of my nose. Use a non scented Dawn soap every night to clean the cushion, it will help, along with some of the other comments.

This time, I'll reply to this rude person.palerider wrote:stupid.D.H. wrote:Also, when you change the mask or the part in question, soak the new mask (or face piece) in 50% vinegar solution for at least an hour.
I always soak new face pieces in vinegar solution. I am using the ComfortGel Blue Nasal CPAP Mask. It's a good mask for me, as I generally get a 100% fit. However, I did find that when I changed the face piece, I was getting a bad allergic reaction. The vinegar solution solved that problem. If the vinegar odor is objectionable, just wash very thoroughly afterwards.

you can do whatever you want, nobody cares, it's when you spread your stupid ideas without any thought that it becomes a problem for others.D.H. wrote:I always soak new face pieces in vinegar solution. .palerider wrote:stupid.D.H. wrote:Also, when you change the mask or the part in question, soak the new mask (or face piece) in 50% vinegar solution for at least an hour.
I'll quit being "rude" just as soon as you quit posting stupid shit.

Re: Staring to have acne around where my mask sits
Funny, I was allergic to the latex (or whatever the material is). You're obviously have a contact allergy to vinegar (even if you eat it in your food). If you have a contact vinegar allergy, obviously this won't work for you! Also, I said only to do this to the face piece, not to any other piece.knothead wrote:D.H. wrote:First of all, wash the mask - at least the part that comes in direct contact with the affected areas - with soap and water every time you finish using the machine. Re: Staring to have acne around where my mask sits
I soak my mask in a half vinager and half water solution for cleaning. always add some water to the vinager. Acne comes from not washing your mask or your face often enough and not changing your towel you wash your face with.

Re: Staring to have acne around where my mask sits
I was having the same issue and saw this suggestion....a couple of weeks ago, I bought two liners from Padacheek....I have had the best night's sleep since I started using them. They not only eliminated the sweat/oil issues, they also took care of the slight leakage I was having at the top of my mask which kept waking me up at night. WIN-WIN!chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2016 7:23 amCheck out PadaCheek.com. It surprises me that providers almost universally know nothing of mask liners.
But maybe it should not . . .
