sleep apnea is a disorder that became an industry, controlled by the docs, equip. sellers, manufacturers, lobbyists, etc., etc. that's why you can't buy a cpap at Walmart or BestBuy for $79.95 (in the appliance dept. next to hair dryers).

I was looking for a cheap backup for my trusty resmed. (27k hours, a backup machine seems like something to shop for. I don't know where I could rent a cpap at 3am.)

so, I found a store (http://www.secondwindcpap.com) that has "used" F&P HC234 machines for $199. some warranty. reviews on machine look ok.
they sent me a form prescription for my doc. to sign, I'll get that done this afternoon.

thanks to all who replied. good luck. happy dreams.

(if you shop electronics you probably have a take on "used", "refurbished", "open box" products. my take is that most of the products labeled that way are not really used or refurbished, they're just being dumped by somebody changing inventory and are now being sold at a price closer to wholesale.)

the fact that there's about 150$ (at last count) worth of electronic components inside has nothing to do with that 80$ price point you're looking for, eh?
