Difference between Leak rate and large leak?

Post by rosevader » Tue Sep 20, 2016 10:28 am

Sleepyhead indicated that I have a problem with leak rate but I have 0% large leaks. Huh? I obviously don't understand the terminology. What's the difference? How does this effect my machine's ability to treat my apneas? Thanks for any help to clarify this.

It can leak all night (leak rate) but none of the leaks are large.

SleepyHead default setting for large leak statistic is for the ResMed machine and that's 24 L/min.
You aren't using a ResMed machine but SleepyHead still wants to calculate the leak statistic based on incorrect value.

You need to either turn this off or set the value so that it is more in tune with what your large leak red line would be.

Respironics machines report leaks differently so we can't use the ResMed 24 L/min red line threshold.
Respironics never gives us an exact threshold (because it varies with the pressures) but something more along the lines of 70 L/min would be more appropriate for you with your mask and pressures and machine.

Go to Preferences then CPAP tab and on the right you will see the 24 L/min box for red line threshold....change it to 70 or remove the check mark to turn it off.

Right now Sleepyhead is using the 24 L/min to base the leak statistics data and that's incorrect value to use and responsible for telling you that leaks are excessive when in fact you didn't have any large leaks recorded by the machine.
Large Leaks will be flagged on the Events graph if you have any...that's the LL shown on the events graph.

I recommend turning it off, since the actual large leak will depend on the pressure at the time of the leak.
