New to CPAP (DreamStation)

Post by bgrandy1983 » Sat Sep 17, 2016 7:44 am

So finally after 10 years or so of having sleep apena I got a CPAP! I got the DreamStation and used it for the first time last night. I use the nose piece that simply fits over your nose. Upon waking this morning my nose was a little sore. Would this be cause by the humidity setting being too low? I have high hopes that the CPAP will do wonderful things for me, but I am curious about a couple things.

Often times when I sleep i do breath through my mouth (which i cant stand).. I did wake up a couple times with my mouth open.. Has this occurred with anyone else, and will I be able to keep my mouth close throughout the night? Does it just take some getting used to?

When did any of you notice some strong changes after using the CPAP? What were they and how long did it take to notice?

Thanks in advanced!

Congrats on the new machine. I've been using mine for 2 monts and I'm feeling better since the third week or so.
In my experience the sore nose is normal and it lasts for a few days, while you get used to the pillows. Some moisturizer or vaseline during the day (not at night) should help it feel better. If it's the inside of your nose that feels dry then yes, you should check the humidity levels
For the open mouth my provider recommended a chin strap at first, for some people that works well. For me it didn't because my nose gets stuffy due to allergies, so I had to switch to full face mask.
