? for 960 ASV users

Post by Bons » Wed Sep 14, 2016 10:10 am

For the first month my ASV was blessedly quiet compared to my older one. Now it wheezes when it changes to inhalation pressure. Monkeying with the humidifier silences it for a few minutes but then it's back and keeps me awake. Since last week the humidifier light is on even though I have the machine's indicator light setting on off.

The DME guy helpfully told me to cover the light with tape. And when I asked him to order me a side panel for the ASV so I can remove the humidifier to see if that's where the noise is coming from he refused to order it saying its cosmetic only and I don't need it. So now I have a two month old machine that looks like crap and makes so much noise I don't fall asleep for an hour or more.

DME guy is annoyed with me because I've already gotten this one as an exchange. The first ASV wasn't recording data. To show you his brilliance he looked at my download and said how great my AHI was at .8. Reminded him that I hadn't used the machine four four nights because of the noise so 4 nights of 0 were factored into that 7 day data report.

Any idea what might cause the wheeze and what I can do about it? I can't send it to Respironics for repair because the DME won't authorize it and I can't send it to an independent repair person because I'm still under compliance check. I don't think my insurance company would let me return it and start over with a new DME.

when you fill the humidifier, wet the seal a liitle and see if that stops the noise.

it is purely cosmetic, and silly to order it for a test.

if you absolutely can't live without the side cover, then get one from ebay. 12.99, buy it now.

Sounds as if you have a humidifier issue and it needs to be replaced. They are not expensive compared to the ASV blower unit and you might think about just getting one at your own expense.

That will get you some time in which to argue with the DME guy or even contact Accurate Biomed Services and see if they can help. I have had them do warranty replacement for me on two occasions and their service is quite good.

Their web page is http://acbio.com/.

You can contact them directly.

Does it wheeze only when you inhale? My ASV did that after several months and I traced it to the humidifier. There is a silicon seal in the humidifier and I found that dampening it a little stopped the noise. You could also try softening the seal by putting it in warm water. Or you could just order a new humidifier. I'm a little concerned that you said you've only had this machine for 2 months - are you sure it was a brand-new machine and not a used one. Somewhere in the clinical menu there is a way to check hours.
