My husband rips his mask off

Post by hey_dollie33@live.com » Thu Sep 15, 2016 2:29 pm

I don't know if anyone has any tips on how to keep your spouse from taking the mask off while sleeping, but I would appreciate any help at all!

One of the reasons he could be pulling it off is because he is air starved.

If he is a new recipient of an Auto CPAP, the prescription may be poorly written. Mine was prescribed at 5-20 pressure range. At the minimum pressures I was not getting enough fresh air to flush exhaled air.

We would have better information if you joined the forum and added the machine and prescription information.

Help him to enjoy the experience?

Find him a mask that he likes. Maybe add some wonderful scent he can't get enough of near the air intake on a cotton pad?

I added fans, waves, dry mouth mints ... and lots of fantasy for dreams.

You could help him associate the mask with pleasure?
Be creative!

Good Luck.

...but of course FIRST make sure his treatment and pressures are optimized!
If he's air starved, as was mentioned above, (as I was when set by my "medical professional") that is
AWFUL! It's torture!

CPAP can be wonderful.
I hope you and your husband stick around and learn from these great people!
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.

Maybe you might suggest that he take the initiative to join the forum himself. Then he can post his questions and read all the helpful information provided here.

Slap him every time he does that....he will wake up and learn that he shouldn't do it again.

Okay, I was going to suggest associating wearing the mask with sex, then he'd never want to take it off... but that would be too easy.
