I totally understand

Post by T.D. » Wed Aug 31, 2016 2:17 pm

I got my husband to use his cpap yesterday for 2 hours. That's a record! He came to bed early so I suggested he put it on. Ok, so I thought it was going to cool off a bit last night so opened the house up. Agh fresh air. He ripped that mask right off, dug his heals in and refused to use it any longer. I closed up the house, turned cooler on. Still met with resistance so I told him I'd try it!

Yes when I first put the mask on I got a little sweaty under it but could still feel air so no reason to panic. I'm a slow, deep, nose breather. His pressure setting on ResMed is 7.0. I didn't even use his ramp. The only thing I missed was not feeling overhead fan blowing on my face as he uses a full face mask. I did have to hold a bit of pressure on the mask to keep it from leaking on me.

He keeps telling me he doesn't feel like he's getting air. I could feel air I think what he's feeling is not feeling like he's not exhaling. Of course I knew I was. I tried to get him to hold his hand around the vent areas so he could feel the air circulating in and out. He says he couldn't feel it! I told him to watch the TV and I FELL ASLEEP WITH HIS CPAP ON! Low and behold I got air, didn't suffocate and die but the experience gave me a bit better idea of what he's feeling but can't get him to realize how irrationally he's acting.

He definitely needs to turn up humidity. There wasn't enough Deep Sea nose spray this morning.

I left the house for my conditioning and gave him goal of going 2 hours since he made it 2 hours yesterday and lived to tell. I came home to him sound asleep in bed WITHOUT cpap.

I give up. Obviously he doesn't care about getting kicked all night because he's snoring. Obviously he doesn't care that I get any sleep.

I gave

I read a few of your other posts. Yep, maybe time for tough love. There are others here who are better at explaining that, so I'll let them take over. Good luck.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

kick him outta bed, couch, spare room, make sure his life insurance is paid up... make sure you tell him that you're doing these things.

Tough love doesn't work on an irrationally thinking person. I'm going to get the reports of his previous 2 sleep studies which never picked up or Dr. never reported to us of any apnea episodes. These were done for Neuro reasons. (Seizure and another sleep disorder). I'm now saddled with a 68 year old man who for God only knows how long he's been decimpensated. He wants someone to eat with him, sit with him and make decisions for him. His mother died of Alzheimer's and was a nonchalant asthmatic. He's now acting like she did. He was an avid football player in high school and played on a semi pro team when in military. Lord only knows how many concussions he's had also.

I guess I'm thanking you all for what help you've tried to give me. When the time comes he'll either find his ending years in a nursing home or just not wake up some morning. I give up.

He can't remember from one minute to the next. I've already told him. He doesn't know I've contacted financial planner and told him he needs to get things passed me and not talk with him any longer. Life insurance right now on auto pay. Planner will make sure I know if he tries to change this. Telling him before it's too late he needs to bring me up to speed where things are, making sure I'm on all bank accounts, combination to safe.

You don't have to pull the mask out to feel the air. Just open your mouth a bit and talk. You have air in there if you found you are babbling.
