The struggles

Post by Mr.Mar10s » Tue Aug 30, 2016 7:25 pm

Had my machine for a while now. It's so much to handle. But worth it.
-----
Didn't have health insurance for a while and so i stopped using my machine after the mask and tube needed replacing.
Is there a decent way to get those without insurance?
-----
Finally ordered new supplies. Cost a ton. And was informed I have to get a new script for any further supplied. More money.
Stressful to be honest. Woke up a few weeks ago gasping for life and remembered how much I needed this thing. But can it be affordable????
-----
Tried using it last night after my supplies came in, didn't use any water at all. Think it's broken. Idk what to do. Can't afford to get it fixed. Don't sleep right with out it.
-----
Anyone else ever feel these emotions towards the therapy?

Are you in the US?
Cpap.com sponsors this forum, and their prices are competitive to Medicare allowables.
Way better than the gyp joint down the street.

you can get all the parts you need on amazon and ebay, typically for much less $$

Yep..depending on what is worn out..you can buy just a replacement part.

Do you have a copy of your original RX..doesn't have to be new unless there is an expiration date on it.
New masks from cpap.com will require a RX.
Replacement parts never require a RX...so you can even build your own complete mask with replacement parts. Check out EBay or Amazon too.

Hoses...depends on what hose you need but cheap generic hoses can be found all day for less than $5 shipping included on EBay. I just now searched and first listing shown was $4.39 and shipping was included in the price. $6.79 for 2 of them with shipping included. Now these are the generic 6 ft hoses and not the specialty heated hoses...but they would work.

We need more information to be able to offer any decent ideas...exactly which model machine and humidifier are you using? It's usually cheaper to buy a humidifier than it is to replace it but we need more information because there's a model machine that has a known humidifier issue because of a loose screw and maybe that's what you use.

Has it been raining lately where you live?
What setting are you using on your humidifier?
Those machines use an ambient humidity sensor and if the ambient humidity is already fairly high it won't use much water especially if you are using a rather low setting.
So if it has been raining and your humidity setting is on the low side then it might not use any water and nothing is wrong with the humidifier. When it rains I use very little water and I use a maximum humidity setting. The machine doesn't need to add water because when it rains the humidity is already high so not much water is used up.

That said...the PR S1 50 series machines are the ones that I spoke of when I said there was a known issue with a little loose (rather missing) screw.

It didn't seem to happen as much on the 60 series though.

Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit model number...if the second number is a 5..then you have a 50 series machine...if the second number is a 6 then you have a 60 series machine.
Example...model number 450 would be a 50 series and the same machine in a 60 series would be 460 model number.

What happens is there is a little connector thing (sorry don't know official name) that gets loose so the humidifier quits working because the machine doesn't know it's there. The fix is to anchor it with a little screw that Respironics should have placed in that connector thing and didn't.

if I may, there's two problems that are common with the 50 series, the humidifier issues is a bad wiring connection, where the plug from the humidifier develops a bad connection and overheats and sometimes burns. that's what's in the link you gave.

the screw issue is where the board sensors connect via a silicone piece to the airflow tube, and that connection gets loose, sometimes, causing bad readings, or the machine to shut down, and the solution is to remove the screws from the board, lift up and reseat the board on the silicone gasket. and maybe put a screw in to keep it down. you can see the hole where the screw goes at the top of the board in the fourth picture down in the post you linked.

as far as I know, that second issue doesn't affect the humidifier.

Thanks for the clarification. I told you that I don't do the repair thing well and now you know why...because I get confused as to the issues when I take things apart.

Hopefully this situation with OP here is simply the "it's been raining outside and my setting is 1 or 2" and that's why it didn't use any water.
I have used the System One without the heated hose so that the humidity delivered is tied really tight to the ambient humidity and I can say with certainty that it doesn't take much ambient humidity to really decrease water consumption even at a high humidifier setting.

if it's humid outside, that'll will certainly cut down on water usage, as long as the settings are on system 1 humidification.
