I am having some trouble sleeping again, periodic insomnia that occasionally plagues. I don't think it has anything to do with my machine. But I did notice last night that for long stretches while I was awake, my machine was blowing fiercely. I could feel air exhausting all around my face on the pillow, and a lot of hissing. It finally dawned on me that the pressure was too high, although not so high I could not breathe comfortably. To resolve it, I twice had to turn the machine off. I would wait about 30 seconds, and turn it back on again, and it would be back to normal. Am I right in thinking that the machine did not recognize that I was awake? And do I need to be concerned about a malfunction?
I am not running Sleepyhead, but I do check MyAir daily. My numbers look good last night, and it shows me utilizing the machine 8.5 hours, even though I only slept from 10:30PM -1:30AM and 5:30AM - 7AM. The hours in between I drifted a bit, but I can't say I got any deep sleep. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Re: A whirlwind last night.
You probably should go ahead and get SleepyHead so you can see for sure what the pressure was when you woke up.
But to answer one question...no the machine doesn't know if you are asleep or not but it should eventually lower the pressure down to starting level when one wakes up BUT this isn't an immediate lowering. It actually can take several minutes depending on how high it was and how low the starting pressure is.
Most people won't wait out the lowering process and do like you did and turn it off and then back on.
BTW you don't have to wait 30 seconds if that happens again. A quick push the button to turn it off and then a quick push it again to turn it back on is all that is needed. No need to wait.

Re: A whirlwind last night.
It may not have been high pressure at all . . . just big leaks.

Re: A whirlwind last night.
No, it was definitely high pressure. Mask was tight, and I was wide awake. Wide awake for at least 15 minutes. It happened again last night around 3 AM. I was bolt awake from 3 until 4. If I relaxed my cheeks, the pressure blew them out like balloons. It didn't relent until I shut the machine off -- just punched it off and on quickly, like pugsy advised. Then it came back to normal. Not sure why I am not sleeping well. I am definitely gonna have to learn to use SleepyHead. I have put it off because my Mac is cranky and unstable, and dying of old age. But . . . I will be, too, if I don't get some sleep.

It looks like you have a fixed pressure machine...what is the pressure set at? When you "punch it off" you are most likely restarting the ramp feature which starts low and gradually increases until it reaches your fixed pressure. I'm guessing that it's a leak problem............
