Portable battery question for Respironics one.

Post by Chrisinfp » Sun Aug 21, 2016 11:14 am

I know this has been asked and I have read through the forum but I haven't seen an answer. The power cord says 60 w Is there a cheaper portable battery option I've seen people use things that look like car charges. I'm hoping to not use something like that. I know it's been discussed but is thee a consensus on what is best? Thanks

I'm not sure what your question is. The "60 W" on the AC power brick refers to how much power it can provide to the pump and humidifier, not how much it actually uses. There are plenty of solutions that have been discussed here, but they have to be tailored to your particular needs. Is this for camping, hiking, flying, or home backup? Do you need humidification? How many days, and how will you be recharging? And how cheap do you need? If you want advice you have to tell us a bit about your needs.

The last entry in this thread describes a setup that uses a 25 pound battery. If the humidity setting is low, it should get you through one night. If you need a lighter battery, you'll have to forgo humidity.

Thank you. Under what outside temp/humidity conditions is it ok to not use a humidifier? I'm camping I the northeast in the summer so it's fairly humid. Thanks

A humidifier is for comfort only - many people never use one. I don't bother bringing one on my boat, but the humidity is usually about 85% or more at night, as the temp drops down near the dewpoint. I usually don't bother bringing it to Florida or even DC when I visit. However, I would have died if I didn't have the humidifier in Palm Springs (daytime temp 117, RH ~1%). Bottom line, above 65% relative humidity you might get by with no trouble, below 35% you'll probably be parched.

One solution is to fill the humidifier with water but turn it off so it uses no power (passive mode).

In this post I describe the power use for various humidifier settings:
