Going to Bed Hungry

Post by WarmBodies » Fri Aug 19, 2016 7:22 pm

When breakfast and dinner feel like enough calories for the day, I like to eat a very small dinner. Tonight it was one small apple. By midnight, when I go to bed, I feel hungry.

How does this affect sleep?

(My BMI is normal and I intend to keep it that way by eating appropriately and exercising.)

I go to bed at 3 am, if i dont eat I dont sleep. Usually a cup of chile, and a ice cream bar, and 60 units of insulin. Without this before bed, I cant sleep and most likely blood sugar will go critical before i wake up. Not Good. Jim

Now, take good care of yourself, Jim.

What time do you get up? How many hours per day do you sleep?

(I also like chili and ice cream.)

I'd be a little concerned that something like just an apple, with it's somewhat acidic content, could cause acid reflux overnight which can affect your sleep, Cpap, etc. Probably better to balance things out more during the day and have something more substantial (not 'heavy') for supper.

A small apple for dinner will cause reflux? I don't think so, Julie.

And it is called reflux. Acid reflux is archaic and incorrect.

If you allow three hours before bedtime, that small apple will be digested by your stomach, and there will be no chance of it causing reflux. In any case, apples aren't a major concern for reflux.

Have you ever had reflux?

It is called GERD and it is silent acid reflux.

Yes an apple will cause it. You basically ate acid, fibre and 6 teaspoons of sugar. That causes me a lot of reflux how ever you want to call it.

You are focusing on an old outdated diet. Go and search the threads for low carb/high fat and ditch the apple. Next time eat a steak.

I get the impression she already knows everything, (which makes me wonder why she's askin questions)

No, reflux is not called GERD. GERD is chronic reflux. Chronic is defined as at least twice per week.
Acid reflux is the backward flow of stomach acid into the esophagus — the tube that connects the throat and stomach. Acid reflux is more specifically known as gastroesophageal reflux. During an episode of acid reflux, you may taste regurgitated food or sour liquid at the back of your mouth or feel a burning sensation in your chest (heartburn).

Sometimes acid reflux progresses to GERD, a more severe form of reflux. The most common symptom of GERD is frequent heartburn. Other signs and symptoms may include regurgitation of food or sour liquid, difficulty swallowing, coughing, wheezing, and chest pain — especially while lying down at night.

You sound like you have problems with obesity and blood sugar. It may take an extreme diet to correct this.

I've never had reflux, and I have never been overweight. I will not eat a steak in place of a small apple. Ridiculous.
