Heated tubing for PR Dreamstation

Post by Art10630 » Sat Aug 13, 2016 2:39 pm

Hi all,

I've been using my PR Dreamstation for almost a week. When the tech set me up, she suggested that I ask for a heated tube (they apparently don't give them by default). When I called my provider, they said that my insurance would cover it the same as a regular tube, so I asked if I could switch it out, and she said that it's not recommended for the PR Dreamstation (something about the tube making the air too warm). I'm skeptical, but wanted to ask here. Do any of you here use a heated tube with a Dreamstation and like it better than a non-heated tube? I'm using the dream wear mask if that makes a difference.

Thanks!
Amanda

That makes no sense. Of course it's recommended, it's designed specifically to be used with the Dreamstation to prevent condensation from the humidifier. You can set the tube temp from 1 to 5 and it doesn't warm the air very much. My DME automatically gave me one with my Dreamstation. I would go back and get the heated hose.

That's what I thought. I'm doing okay without it, but if insurance pays for it, I might as well have it and see if it makes things more comfortable. Thanks!

Get the heated hose. While a lot of people think it is just for rain out (condensation) prevention it really does more than that.
It allows for more consistent humidity delivery of whatever % of humidity you want plus it allows greater customization of the hose air temp without messing with the humidity.
My nose really likes maximum humidity and with the heated hose I can get that maximum all year round and not have to worry about it.
In the summer I turn the hose air temp down to the minimum but in the winter I will almost max it out (my house gets really cold)...all the time the humidity stays the same. I don't have to worry about whether it's raining or not or how dry the air is in the bedroom...
So yeah...prevents rain out (which by the way isn't impossible to experience in the summer as well as winter) but in general allows for greater customization for comfort of the humidity delivered and the air temp.

People think "heated hose" and think that the air is REALLY warm and while it can be...it doesn't have to be.

I've never had heated tubing before. Can a regular hose be substituted if a heated replacement tube is not available.

Yes. The heated hose has little wires inside it that heat up the air and it has an electrical connection at the humidifier end of the hose so that those little wires have the power to heat up...plus it has sensors in it for air temperature so that it can maintain whatever hose air temperature you have selected.
So...a totally different hose is needed.
