How much is a set of home Sleep apnea kit?

Post by crappyman » Mon Jul 25, 2016 11:51 pm

I could not locate where I could buy it.

After failing so many sleep tests due to nervousness, I think the only way I can get a proper diagnosis is to have my own kits so that I don't have to bear the stress of being unable to fall asleep.

Do you know where I can buy one?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Itamar-Medical- ... SwtnpXlmzf

have fun.

I am just wondering if it is possible to convince a GP with my Dreamstation's overnight report that shows I have AHI>5 with a pressure range set from 4-8 plus an oximeter's record to write me a Px. My previous ENT specialist refused as he did not wanna bear any mal-practice lawsuit risk.s

Guess it would depend on the doctor. Or dentist. Or PA. Or veterinarian.... anyone who's allowed to write a script for an Rx.

But haven't you already been told there are ways to get a machine without one?

And I'm also confused about what you want - a test to prove you have apnea, or a machine to treat apnea... once you have an auto machine (vs plain cpap) you test yourself... it's probably a good idea to know what you're asking for before approaching someone to arrange it for you. The only problem is that home testing does not cover other related conditions that an in-lab study does, so if you do have one of those, e.g. UARS, central apnea, PLMD, etc. you have no way to test for them (and won't know how to treat them if you were to have them).

It depends on the GP or any medical professional who can write a prescription for a machine. Some will do it and some won't due to feeling like apnea issues are beyond their scope of expertise. If you are interested in a home study, here is a link to one for $249.00.

http://1800cpap.com/home-sleep-apnea-te ... e-kit.aspx

It also includes the review by the sleep medicine physician who will write an RX for a machine if you test positive for apnea.

I haven't had much luck trying that route but others do report success... it all depends on any given doctor's view about expanding their role to cover CPAP therapy. Yeah, lawsuits are changing medical practice and there's nothing we can do to stop that.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Hi cm,

I asked my local DME to print out a copy of my 30 and 90 day reports, and I took those to show to my pulmonologist. My pulmonologist trusted that reported data. Check with your insurance company to see if they cover in-home apnea tests; a lot of insurances are moving toward using them because they are cheaper than in-lab. *Note: I do know that an in-home test will not detect central apneas. Also ask your insurance if you need a referral for a sleep study from a specialist such as a pulmonologist or sleep doc, or if your GP can write the script.

If your insurance does not cover the in-home test, you can most likely rent one through a local DME or through an online provider, but you will still need a script. I've had two in-home tests to date; one I got through local DME, the other through GP's office. Inform your GP of all the steps you are taking to get this test, including talking with your insurance. Explain your concerns about your health, and if you still can't get a script, I'd suggest either changing GP's or asking for a referral to a sleep doc or pulmonologist.

When I switched from CPAP to Autopap, my doc had me set the settings going from 8 to 18, since this started 2 below my titration pressure of 10 as was 2 off the max of the machine. These setting have been fabulous. My sleep study AHI was 60, my straight CPAP was 20 now I am at about .7.

Reply:
Call an EDM near your local and talk to the owner. They can guide you how to go about doing the home sleep study. One EDM in my local does it on their upper floor. This EDM also hire their own Sleep MDs.

Another option:

email this maker of home sleep devices and ask whom to contact near your local:

It's very important they do it on an upper floor. Gravity, etc.
