BIPAP ST users
just wanting to meet others using BIPAP ST. I'm finding it a difficult transition from cpap, which I wrote about on CPAP thread. Basically feeling like my settings are not right since I feel the machine rushes me to breathe

Bump, and here is your description of the problem from the other thread:
BTW, it's usually best to start your own thread and not glom onto an old thread.sistergetu wrote:struggling with new BIPAP ST. I feel like the machine is rushing me to breathe and not synched to my natural breathing. Feels very stressful, like I need to take off the mask and rest. Also, I can tell the pressure after ramp is too high, causing me to gulp the air. I know I need an adjustment, but don't yet know the terms. Am i needing increased rise time or timed Insp? or something else altogether.
IPA 20
EPAP 16
Rate: 14
Timed Insp 1.2 secs
Rise Time: 3

Caveat: I'm not a BiPap S/T user but coming to this from an ASV point of view.
Here is a description of a couple of parameters from the Providers Manual that may be related to how the machine feels.
On an ASV machine, setting this parameter to high makes it seem as if the machine is driving your breathing.

BPM may be set to a too fast rate. What is yours set to?BPM (BPM) - If you are in S/T mode, you can set the Breaths Per Minute setting from 0-30 in 1.0 BPM increments. The default is 10.
Ti - If you are in S/T mode, you can set the Inspiratory Time setting from 0.5 to 3 seconds in 0.1 increments. The default setting is 1.0.
