I personally would not open up a new machine and void out the warranty for a inconvenience these machines cost a lot of money and most people can not afford to replace a machine out of pocket.

of course, I've seen how many of the machines are easy to open, (haven't had an air*10 model to work on though.

My S9 has an externally-pluggable modem and it's been over three months (as far as I understand, the compliance period my insurance requires) since I got it, so I thought I should give my DME a call and ask them if they want it back.

You can disable it by going to "My Options" on the homescreen, scrolling to the bottom, and turning on Airplane Mode. It will no longer transmit anything, just like you phone when you put it in airplane mode. Ta-da!

Even though I have the modem fully functioning, I still got a robocall yesterday from my DME asking me questions that could be answered by looking at my downloaded data. When I have some time, I might just give them a call and ask what gives.

I don't see why we need built-in modems forced on us... all my PR System One's have the capability of accepting a plug-in modem that sits flush with the back of the machine. From what I understand, so do most of the late model ResMed S9s. That seems like a better way to go. Easier for repair also. You don't have to send in your entire machine, just the modem.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

If you bought this from a person who no longer needs it, you will want to disconnect the modem.
The original issuing DME supplier or pulmonologist's office may revert your settings back to the original
patient's settings over the air. You may not want that. You do realize that pressure adjustments
can be made over the air?
If you received your unit through insurance, and if owned outright now, you may wish to adjust
the pressure settings without the cash payment or insurance co-pay associated with a doctor visit.
There's no real privacy issues here. I leave my modem on because I have decent insurance and
it's convenient to have the sleep reports waiting at my pulmonologist's office.
I can delay an inconvenient sleep study this way, and keep receiving masks, hoses and filters via
insurance with the modem reporting my usage. It's a good thing for me.
Many of us don't have insurance, and we have to do what's needed to survive.
And that includes hacking a CPAP and mending cracked masks and headgear if need be.

My modem just stopped transmitting on it's own. Don't know why. Don't know how. I can't get it working again. I am not worried about it but I did like doing a quick AHI check on MyAir so I do miss it.
Given enough sleep....I could rule the world.

If you are sure your modem has quit functioning, take it back to your DME if it is still under warranty. It's only a couple of months old. It's not really a function that is that important to me...I might wait a little longer to see if anything else goes wrong. I have unplugged and replugged it but nothing. If you are in a compliance phase for insurance purposes, you may be hearing from your DME before then. I found out mine wasn't working when my DME called and asked why I wasn't using my machine. I told them I was using it every night, so they told me to bring the machine in to be checked, and they swapped out my machine.

They haven't said anything yet...if they do, I will ask them to swap it out. I can bring in the card if they really need to check.
