Terrible Feeling in Nose After One Night

Post by rockncountry101 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 1:13 pm

Last night was my first night back on CPAP in about a year. (I really didn't want to be on it but may be stuck with it.) Upon waking up I have a feeling in my nose that is hard to describe, but I will try. It feels like when you jump into a swimming pool and get chlorinated water up your nose. I hope that makes sense. It's a very uncomfortable feeling. Oh woe is me...how I hate this.

Sounds like you are getting De-Nile up your nose, hold your head higher out of the water. Jim

Haven't had cpap that long, so I'm just guessing here. My thought is this- could the humidity be set too high? Maybe turn it down just a little? I could be VERY wrong, however. Anyone with more experience have any ideas?

Well I could come up with at least 100 reasons why I don't want to use my machine. However, I realize I need it. I'm going to use it. I just having a burning nose today and it sucks.

Is it a fiery pain that feels like hot razor blades are slicing through your inner nasal airways with every inhale and exhale? I've had this a few times. Used a nasal moisturizer for temporary relief. When at its worst I had to take a couple nights off the machine because it was too painful to endure. I've only had this happen when I was away from home and didn't want to bother to take the humidifier with me. Fortunately for me the severe part of the incidents were brief, 2-3 days at most. What are your settings for your humidifier?

Really Jim?! Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't make it any less real. If what this poster is feeling even slightly resembles what I went through, the pain is undeniable and certainly not just an excuse.

RC101, I use a nasal mask as you do, but I have my mouthbreathing under control, I don't even use a HH stopped last year after 9 years of using it. I am using 3L of O2 with it.

You won't like this suggestion, but I'd try a good FF mask for a while, I use a Comfort Gel FF Mask as a backup. The LAST thing in the world I'd do is not use my machine for a few days.

You need to have the software and full data, to get more ideas. Without a steering wheel, you can't dodge the trees. Jim

I believe the humidity was set to 4. As far as the software, I used a software last time and I believe obsessing over the numbers is what made me quit. As far as a full face mask, I can't do it. They destroy my nose bridge. If not for nasal pillows, I would take my chances without CPAP. Thanks for the suggestion though.

The pain sounds like reflux all the way up into the nose.
I have not had it quite so far up, but yes, it is miserable.
If this is the first time, it may well be the last.
Reflux is likely independent of your therapy.
Avoid eating for a couple hours before beddy bye time.

Amara View is a FFM that sits under the nose. It doesn't touch the bridge of your nose. There are probably others like it but this is the one I use.

Did you wash out the humidity tank well and fill it with distilled water?

Yes and yes. I have heard of the View. I just don't think I can handle it but I may try it out one day. Thanks!

Also if that's the problem raising the head of the bed 3 or 4 inches may help to keep the acid down where it belongs. Jim
