Just got my CPAP Today

Post by Abbalah » Wed Jul 13, 2016 2:13 pm

So today is the big day...

I can't remember the last time I woke up feeling rested. I finally went and got a sleep study and it turns out... SLEEP APNEA.

I couldn't believe that I had 79 events in my 5 hours of sleep... longest lasted 46 seconds. I don't even think I can hold my breath that long! At 32 years old I didn't feel like it should be like this and I'm hoping that this is the start of a new chapter.

I was wondering if anyone had any success stories! Just looking for some extra motivation as I go home and get this started tonight!

Welcome!

Look above the "Topics" section to "Announcements." At the bottom of that list is a thread titled "Newbie would like to hear success stories, please." Lots of good stuff there. Good luck!

Well Abbalah, I wish you well on your first night. It's been so long ago for me I can't exactly remember how well it worked for me
that first night but going in I knew I had a problem stopping breathing in the night waking gasping for breath.
During my sleep study I didn't get any rest because I was so concerned with my mask leaking so bad.

It's probably going to take you a bit to get your mask right and even finding the mask that works for you so don't get disappointed
when you struggle a bit. Eventually you'll get the hang of it and maybe you'll get lucky and the mask will be right the first time.

My CPAP and now APAP is a life saver for me and I wouldn't even think about sleeping without it, I'm grateful to have it and to whomever
came up with the idea in the first place. My life would be misery without it.

Best wishes and let us know how you're doing.

Bryan

Thanks Brian! I'm trying to tell my wife how excited I am, but I just don't think she understands!

Have everything laid out and ready to go. Can't wait to see if it makes a difference.

No need to wait until bedtime. It really helps a lot of folks to wear it while reading or watching TV, just to start getting the feel of things before actually trying to sleep.

I'm excited for you! I'm new to xPAP therapy and am one of the folks who saw and felt an improvement literally overnight and took to wearing a mask easily. I hope your first night is great!

First night went great! Nasal pillows fit like a glove and I don't even remember falling asleep. Woke up 30 minutes before my alarm went off. I didn't wake up feeling super refreshed, but I did noticed I didn't feel exhausted... so it's a start!!

It's amazing how much of a difference a properly fitted mask makes.
