Temporary suggestion to improve pillow comfort

Post by Aclyesia » Mon Jul 11, 2016 11:14 pm

I had to switch my mask today. Previously I had the Wisp, but the cushions leaked air into my eyes and the bottom part of it squished my upper lip up so it compressed my nostril and caused a pimple to form inside against the septum. I now have the Airfit P10 for her with XS pillows-- it is super comfy on my non-pimple side and I know I'm going to love this mask already, but in the meantime do any of you have suggestions on how to improve comfort for the other nostril until the pimple heals?

You might try a dab of lanolin. A brand often recommended is Lanisoh, a nipple cream for nursing mothers. You can find it in the Baby Section of Wal Mart and other stores. Kind of pricey, but a little goes a long way.

It sounds like your old pillows were the wrong size for you.
Maybe try peroxide during the day and/or some other numbing agent?
Lansinoh is often used around the nares and the pillow for comfort and for a better seal. You can find Lansinoh where ever baby bottles are sold. It is for nursing mother and sore cpaper's

I think the biggest challenge with my old mask was the fact that I am a stomach/side sleeper, so regardless of the mask's fit, there were bound to be pressure points on my face once my cheek hit the pillow (for my head). Unfortunately for me, that pressure point was the front of my nose.

Woke up this morning with some kind of breakout/reaction I did start to notice yesterday on the tip of my nose (where new mask doesn't even touch) so I will pick up some of the Lansinoh to see if that will help the healing process of the pimple and my poor nose tip.

Gosh darnit, I will persevere! Haha!

First night with nasal pillows was great otherwise, btw. Airfit P10 for her is a very comfortable mask!

Ugh. Woke up this morning with more redness spread up over my nose. Went to the doctor's office and found out it wasn't a pimple.

Cellulitis. Freaking cellulitis. In and on my nose.

Did you get a prescription strength antibacterial cream or ointment for it? What did they suggest you do about using your mask?

I'm on an antibiotic blast of 7 days of 3x day cephalexin 500mg and have to keep it covered in Mupirocin 2% ointment during the day, inside and outside of my nose. Doctor ordered me an extra set of pillows and said to use my current one until the infection is gone. At night she said I'm ok to just use the Lansinoh externally with my mask. Suggested I raise humidity and temp to keep things from excessively drying out in my nasal passages and try to sleep in a more upright position.

I was pretty comfortable last night, thankfully but today I just want to curl into a ball, put the mask back on and go to sleep. Stupid infection stings so bad.

Sounds like they are treating it aggressively. That's a good thing. I wonder about using the same pillows though. Wash them thoroughly with an antibacterial soap to get rid of the bacteria. I think I would also put a bit of Mupirocin on the mask after washing and just leave it on there to be sure you don't reinfect your nose. Sometimes bacteria can get in the tiny cracks and crevices that you can't see. Shoot, I would wash the sheets/pillowcases, glasses, and anything else that comes near your nose too.

I didn't think of putting the ointment on the pillows. I am disinfecting them daily and letting them soak in a 50/50 distilled white vinegar and water solution while I get ready for work in the morning after washing them.

Sheets and pillowcases have all been washed in Sanitize mode and my husband is replacing the allergen cover on my favorite pillow today. Threw away my Clairsonic head and have all of my facial care stuff in barbicide. Thankfully I rarely wear makeup so my brushes are all OK. I did throw away my beauty blender though.

Have a new toothbrush for after this is all done, even. I have a suppressed immune system so unfortunately this is all routine for me.

Gee, I think you have everything covered. Did you disinfect hubby's nose too?

Hehe... he is so occupied with Pokémon GO and ARK that his nose is safe, buried in technology.
