In a pinch I will use tap water that comes from a well. But most commercial ( cities and towns ) tap water is treated with fluorine and chlorine which will come out of the water as a gas when it is heated in the tank, which you will then breathe in. If you need to use that water I would recommend boiling the water for ten minutes before using or just picking up a good brand of bottled water. Even well water can have problems, in certain areas of the country, well water can contain radon or methane gases, that I wouldn't recommend breathing in.

Doesn't bottled water have all those chemicals in them like tap water?

There is no brand called 'bottled' water... just a bunch from all over the world with diff. names and diff. inclusions, additions, etc etc... you do have to do a little checking to see what's what, but isn't it easier just to find either distilled or non-compromised tap?

Well, breathing in gas fumes isn't ideal. Looks like I'll be buying distilled on the trips rather than worrying about it

I know it will leave deposits in the humidifier, but what about the machine itself? I'd rather have the convenience of using tap water than transporting distilled water, if the only problem is it requires me to replace the humidifier water chamber.
Your question should have been about damage to your lungs and not to the CPAP machine.
So I guess showers are dangerous too? Don't come to near a water fall or the ocean! And OMG FOG!!!!!
fog's a killer!

no, tap water is fine, please don't spread FUD.

if it's save to drink, and bathe in, it's safe for your humidifier, no matter what the nutjobs say....

and that's a fact.

Will you bring the Clamato?

For PhysicsBob - are you an antivaxxer too?

Seriously, get yourself educated by real scientists, not whoever that was who told you those stories!

Tap water is usually fine, I'm told, although depending on your hardness, often a bit of vinegar cleaning will dissolve the calcium carbonate and other mineral deposits.

I'm speaking from my experience.

Trust me, you wouldn't want to use our tap here in Manila.

I'm not acting as if I know everything and anything.

I am a newbie in the cpap world.

I spoke from experience, even for more than just 2 weeks on the machine.

Feel free to use our tap in Manila to see and taste what I mean.

I don't see any reason for a newbie trying to help out in every little way he can.

So chill masters.
