Air tube filling with my own breath
I've spent two nights so far with my CPAP machine but what I notice is that when I breathe out the tube fills with my breath. it feels like I'm breathing into a bag and I'm not getting enough oxygen. Does anyone else feel like this?
Re: Air tube filling with my own breath
The tube does not fill with your breath. The air pressure coming from the machine does not permit this to happen. The air you exhale exits the mask through the little holes in the mask. Put on your mask, turn on your machine, and put your hand in front of your mask. You will feel the air exiting the mask
This is a common fear for new users. If you feel like you are suffocating it
MAY be a pressure issue. Are you using the ramp setting? If so try turning off that feature.

I turned off my ramp right from the get go. I actually feel like my pillows fit better with the higher pressure. If you provide us with what machine you have we could probably help out with instructions for disabling it.

Exactly which machine are you using?Phish wrote:I've spent two nights so far with my CPAP machine but what I notice is that when I breathe out the tube fills with my breath. it feels like I'm breathing into a bag and I'm not getting enough oxygen.
What pressure are you using?
What mask are you using?
It's common feeling when the pressure is set too low and not enough air is moving...it feels like we are suffocating but we aren't.....but it sure can feel that way.
Usually just a little more pressure is all that is needed.
The lowest pressure setting on most machines is 4 cm...often people are told to use the ramp feature and that means they start out at 4 cm and it takes a period of time before the machine works up to whatever the prescribed pressure setting might be...and they can take a long time (depending on time setting for ramp).
Sometimes when using a nasal pillow mask...people can get the same suffocation feeling when the nasal pillow is too small...so if your pressure isn't 4 or 5..and you use a nasal pillow mask then perhaps going up a size will help.
For more explicit suggestions we need to know the exact model machine...and the pressures used and if the ramp is being used (and for how long)...and what mask...
Without details on what you are using it's really hard to offer more than general ideas.
