Another happy REMStar Auto /w CFLEX customer!

I started using the the RemStar Auto M Series with CFLEX and humidifier last night with the Respironics Comfortfull 2 mask. I purchased the mask last month when I trialed a F&P CPAP with humidifier. The past month has been up and down, good and bad, but one thing that was consistent is that I was using up nearly an entire container of water in one night with the F&P yet still had a very dry mouth and throat in the morning.

Last night I used the REMStar Auto, which I LOVE. Going from a non CFLEX to a full Auto and CFLEX is a huge difference to me and I am living the results today. I'm still a little tired during the day but I swear I only got my usual 6 hours or so of sleep last night but I woke up this morning bright and cherry and felt refreshed....something I never felt with the F&P and certainly not before I started using a CPAP.

I did notice though which confuses me that I also did not have the dry mouth effect I was experiencing with the F&P..thank GOD!. My pressure on the F&P was set to 17cm so I'm thinking that even though I may 'need' a max of 17cm as set out by my sleep lab and doc, the APAP probably culled down my pressure to where I really need it thus reducing the flow of air going through the mask.

At the same time and I don't know if this is related, I noticed the hose was retaining some water, 'rain-out' if you will, which may either be because I filled up the REMStar humidifier to the max (and maybe slightly higher) or I adjusted the hose to not go over my headboard (as suggested), rather around my night table and alongside my bed ... something I thought might be more comfortable. Perhaps also the temperature in my room was a little cooler than normal. Any suggestions about insulating the hose? My DME suggested buying the special sock for it but I hear using old pantyhose wrapped around the hose will work?

I don't know if it is the difference of the CPAP, the CFLEX, the location of the hose or the difference in humidifer but all I know is I haven't felt this good in awhile...in fact, I don't know if I ever got such a good night's sleep.

Any comments? Anyone using the M Series Auto? I know it is pretty new yet.

I also am a new user of the Remstar Auto with C-flex. 2 nights so far. I am struggling with the noise. What is your opinion of the noise level and have you used another type of machine before this one. How does it compare?

I notice that the noise of the machine is a bit louder than the F&P 230(?) I had before but I listen to music from my clock radio beside my bed so the extra noise doesn't bother me at all. It does do the Darth Vader breathing noise as someone else suggested though which was kind of amusing.

Compared to the F&P unit I had the night before (which I gladly returned yesterday), I notice a huge difference..no dry mouth, not forcing my breath, fewer mask leaks, and a better night sleep in general! I'm hoping that this isn't just a one night thing and my sleeping results will only continue to improve.

One thing I don't understand though is the info on the LCD display (which I wish was backlit). I know I'm using a new machine because the DME broke it out of a brand new box right in front of me and the numbers on the LCD reflect that. However, shouldn't the AHI numbers and usage numbers change right away... or do I have to wait for the first 7 days to pass before I get a 7 day average? How does it know that it has been 7 days anyhow....number of hours?

OK. I checked the readings on my machine last night before going to bed and discovered that it did indeed record my previous night's sleep info. According the machine 90% of the time, the pressure was set at 10.3 cm (instead of the requested 17cm by the sleep lab), and I had 0.9 AHI events.

Am I reading this correctly? I've heard that less than 2 AHI was very good. Can it be true that's why I felt so good, even with only 6 hours of sleep?

Last night I had some work to do and went to bed at 3am. Now at 7:00am I'm still feeling rather rested after using the machine last night again.

When does the machine record the data? It doesn't seem to do it right away after waking up.

It is recording continuously while it is running, it just doesn't seem to update the displays until the day is over (usually set internally as being Noon I believe). But if you have card and software, you can download right away after waking up. It's just the onboard displays don't change until day is over.
