Getting used to a full mask vs nasal?

Post by gravyv » Mon May 23, 2016 9:11 am

Should there be a big difference in comfort between a full vs nasal mask?

For the past 8 weeks or so I've been using a nasal mask with some okay results. I had a couple decent nights with it but most of them I had trouble staying asleep. I kept waking up during the night to adjust the mask. I had also had some occasional congestion issues so I decided to ask for a full face mask on my next visit with my doc.

So now I'm using a full mask and it seems to be even worse in terms of comfort. I"ve only used it for about 3 days so far. The biggest plus so far is that I feel I'm getting more air and can breathe better. However, the discomfort is making it hard for me to stay asleep.

Is it possible there might be some fit issues or do I just need to learn how to get used to having it on? I did get measured for the masks when I met with my rt so I imagine I have the appropriate size. Maybe I just need to try different brands?

The masks I used were the resmed airfit n10(nasal mask), and f10(full face mask).

Edit: some additional information. I have the resmed airsense 10 autoset. The range is currently at 6 - 20. From the sd card data my median pressure is around 11. I'm thinking change the range might help possibly? What do you guys think. I'll probably try to email my rt or doc about this.

What's your 95% pressure? What is your average pressure? Median is the physical middle of your pressures, which would indicate your pressure ranges from the minimal allowed 6 up to 16 as a high.

I think most masks are different. Without using software, I doubt if many people can really tell what is going on with their treatment. The secret is we need both kinds of masks, but we each need to find one each that works for us.

Over the years (11), I have found 3 FF Masks, one works well, one almost, one fail, Nasal mask, 1, it works well. You must keep the total leak rate as low as possiable, or the data becomes faulty. Jim

What about it is uncomfortable? Does it feel too tight? Feel like it doesn't fit right above your nose? It is very possible that you might not wear the same size in FF that you would wear for Nasal. You might also want to try some liners to help with the comfort but it would help to know how it is bothering you.
