Newbie here!

Post by vader06 » Thu Mar 31, 2016 8:59 am

Hello

I am a newbie here and I wanted to say Hello. I am 44 years old and I have a series of health issues through the years. I just recently went in for a consultation with a Sleep Doctor. I am scheduled to go into a Sleep Lab for a Polysomnogram in about a week and half. My Doctor has told me the Sleep Apnea could be the root of all my problems. I wake up with headaches and dry mouth in the morning. My wife has said I snore real loud and stop breathing in my sleep. Also I have had high blood pressure for some time. There is also a series of other issues but I will not bore you with it. I am always so tired so I am looking forward to this testing and searching for a good nights rest.

Terrific that you're finally going to be tested and likely treated. A tip until you do that though would be to do everything you can to not sleep on your back (or roll onto it overnight) because it creates more apneas. People have used a variety of ways to keep it from happening, so see how creative you can be .

Last week Thursday I received my Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset and Amara View Mask. Thursday evening I sat down in front of the Television watching the Detroit Tigers with the Machine and mask on trying to get used how everything works and fits. I feel like Darth Vader. So it was very awkward at first. When I went to bed I had trouble getting comfortable and getting the mask to seal properly. Needless to say I did not get much sleep but I expected to be that way for a least a while.
However for the remainder of the weekend I was able to get comfortable and for once had some great sleep. I did wake up couple times each night because of my mask leaking. I did have the mask fitted for me at the DME. I have adjusted the headgear so it is snug but not too tight. When I take off the mask in the morning it puts marks on my face around my nose and mouth. It is starting to get sore as well. If I loosen the headgear anymore it just leaks. I am not giving up on the mask just yet. I might have to try a different mask eventually

Look at Padacheek.com, especially the 'liners', and see what you think.

I made my own liners from on old, well used tee shirt. If you are interested on trying to make your own, pm me and I will give you a copy of the pattern I used.

Congratulations on starting your journey to better sleep and health. You have a good machine and a good attitude. You are well on your way. Now I would suggest that you work on comfort issues. These are little things that once taken care of help you sleep better without waking up. Such as liners or finding a mask that works better for you. My sixth one was the charm. Now I hope they never stop manufacturing it! I bought a buckwheat hull pillow and that really helped me with leaks as well.
You will keep refining things and your sleep will continue to improve.

Best of Luck!

I think the Amara View is a really good mask if you need to use FFM.

The Amara View seems to be a good mask once I have a good seal. My questions is do those Padacheek liners work for the mask as far as keep from leaking? Has anyone used the liner for the Amara View?
