Hello guys hope everyone's ok. Well it's been 3 months now since I recieved my cpap machine. It's been a bit of a roller coaster but for the last month I have been getting ahi of under 5 every night and averaging between 7 and 11 hours every night! The one thing I'm finding very odd is that the more sleep I have the worse I feel?? I did a bit of an experiment and I did a few nights with 9 to 11 hours and felt crap the next day, I then did a few nights at 6 to 6.5 hours and had much more energy and felt alert the next day. Anyone else had this?? Thanks

HI, sounds to me like you're being undertreated, whether by a too-low min. pressure setting or something else. Can you post some Sleepyhead graphs etc. to show us what's going on? If you need help, the 1st post on the main pg ("Tutorial") has more info.

Only a few nights? If you factor in the "how you feel" into the equation, you may need to do more of it.Gcfcos wrote:Hello guys hope everyone's ok. But, monitor your therapy with software to see how those settings are working.......along with "how you feel".
We all have different settings and how they work for us. Not many of us are the same with what works.
I would be starving for air at those pressures but others can do well.

Oooooooooooh. THAT'S what your pressure is.........Gcfcos wrote:I've just changed my pressure settings in my sig. It's now at 6cm and ramps to 16cm
How long is your Ramp time?
At some point, you may want to TRY doing away with the Ramp and just starting with your pressure setting.

Re: 3 months in
Agree, and 6 is still very low. You're sleeping longer (as you likely did pre diagnosis) to compensate for minimal therapy.
Re: 3 months in
I tend to turn the machine on while I'm reading to go to sleep and then by the time I'm falling asleep the pressure is already on full even before I fall asleep

Re: 3 months in
For some people too much sleep does make them feel crappy. One of my co workers got migraines from sleeping in. I feel "out of sorts" if I sleep too long.

For too long I tend to get a migraine and feel real crappy all
Day. Very odd really. Instead of going
To bed at 10.30pm I know wait untill 11.45 to 12 midnight to go to bed. I'm now back at work 3 full days a week
So am working my way back to
Normal one step at a time.

Re: 3 months in
I find that sometimes it has to do with what time I am waking up. My "best" sleep is usually between 6am and 8am. Even if I get more hours, if I wake up earlier than 6am it doesn't seem as restful. My AHI is good. It is probably due to REM sleep.
I try to go to bed at the same time, wake up at the same time, even on my vacations. At least for me, sleep hygiene has really helped.
When I first started therapy, I slept much longer hours than I had before. Now after more than a year into my therapy, I feel great with a consistent 9 hours.
Good luck on your quest for improved health!

Re: 3 months in
I actually feel like crap if I sleep too long too, but it's hard to convince myself of that on cold snowy days when I am really enjoying the covers and the dogs at each side. I'll wake up and just snuggle in for hours and then feel like crap. I know you should sleep consistent hours even on weekends, but sometimes it just feels so good to stay in bed...till I finally get up and feel crappy.

Thanks for all your replys. Since I posted this thread I've been going to bed and trying to fall asleep by 12 midnight and waking up at 7am. So far I feel more alert and slightly
More energy. I'll keep at it for a while and see how I get on

Re: 3 months in
But do you nod off without the mask and machine on? I know that it's one of the worst things I can do. Once awake a snuggle in consists of me getting up, preparing my tea maker, getting my cuppa, reading, checking Facebook, etc. I feel even beter if I get up and do something constructive. I didn't go to golf this morning (6:30 am start) and that was a mistake. I'll be going next week for sure.Michelle-OH wrote:I actually feel like crap if I sleep too long too, but it's hard to convince myself of that on cold snowy days when I am really enjoying the covers and the dogs at each side. Re: 3 months in
Hi ive only ever nodded back off to sleep without the mask twice in the last 3 months and fell asleep once on the sofa by accident but didn't notice any adverse effects from this. Had 8.5 hours sleep last night and feel fine. It's normally around 3pm everyday that I start to struggle but up to then I'm ok. I was finishing work at 3pm instead of 5 but now they've got me finishing at 5pm again and it's making me very tired.Holden4th wrote:But do you nod off without the mask and machine on?
