Nose Mask and Beard

Forget that I'm a Trump fan for a few minutes and someone help me with my other problem......
I'm a brand new user with a short beard. I have a nose mask and the irritation after 3 hours is driving me nuts under my nose. I don't want to shave so hoping someone can help me find a good solution. I can't say that I will vote for Hillary, but I will be very appreciative for your help.

Well if you vote for someone other than Trump the problem goes away automatically lol. But in all seriousness I have a mustache and was able to use a nasal mask. A liner of some sort might be a place to start. Cut an old shirt to fit your mask and see if that will help any. Worth a shot and has worked for a lot of others.

I have a full beard, as well. I found that the Sleepweaver Elan nasal mask has worked well for me, interestingly enough. Also, my main mask is a nasal pillows mask, the Swift FX, which doesn't interact much with my facial hair, the seal is with the inside of the nostrils instead of the outside. Another nasal pillow mask that works well with facial hair is the AirFit P10. If you can use a nasal mask, you could use either of these nasal pillow masks, and most likely would have less problems. I believe that you can try all 3 of these masks currently with free return insurance from cpap.com. This means that if one or all of these masks don't work for you, you can return it within 30 days and the purchase price of the mask in question will be completely refunded to you. So you can try them at a low risk.

I guess that my message is that it may help to try something new and different.

You're using a nasal mask. Graduate to nasal pillows like the Airfit P10 and you won't have your schnoz covered by mask. A beard or mustache won't matter to nasal pillows. I assume you're allowed to trim nose hair?

I'm not sure how you decided everybody here is a liberal, however give nasal pillows a try ... it's worth a shot

When I used nasal pillows years ago I did have to do a bit of judicious trimming but it really wasn't noticeable to anybody, or at least as far as I could tell.

When I 1st got my CPAP 3+ years ago, I had only a goatee. I was told then I should probably shave to maximize the seal between my full face mask cushion and me. That was definitely NOT happening lol. This past October (2015) I decided to go full beard for the 1st time and I absolutely love it! I hope I never hafta shave! Anyways, My mask is a full face and Ive yet to have any issues BUT as a fellow beard I would suggest maybe applying sum quality beard oil before you go to bed, that will soften the hairs and moisterize the skin. BEARD ON BRO!

I used a nasal mask for nine years, having beard and mustache the whole time. Until this past January, I didn't know there were alternatives. The nasal mask did tend to wear down the mustache in the area directly below my septum, due to nightly contact. I simply put up with this, but I didn't like it. I knew there were full face masks, but I thought the beard would present leak problems, so I just accepted the mustache erosion as a necessary evil.

When I had another sleep study this past January, they tried nasal pillows, the Swift FX ones. This was the first time I'd heard of nasal pillows. It took a bit of getting used to, but with this setup there's very little contact with my mustache, so the worn patch is growing back. I wish I'd investigated alternatives to the nasal mask years ago.
