Feeling Discouraged
Feeling Discouraged
I am a recent brand new CPAP user and starting to feel very discouraged. I have bought my 4th mask trying to find the right one for me. It is starting to be very expensive and I do not have a lot of money. I feel that once I do find the right mask, I will love it, but I am hating having to take the masks off before I can even get to sleep due to the discomforts, unable to breathe easily, etc. I am going to continue to TRY and use this machine....but it is getting harder and harder....

Welcome, to the group Rube.
Tell us what mask you have tried and what the problem is with each one.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: Feeling Discouraged
I know how you're feeling. I'm a new user as well and have had some of the same experiences, especially the difficulty breathing. With that, what starting pressure are you on?
During my trial on apap, my pressure was set at 4-20. I found at the start of the night it felt like I was struggling to get enough air to breath - and essentially I was! However once the pressure started ramping up, it got better. When they set the machine to cpap mode they were going to set the starting pressure at 5 and ramp up to 9. I requested the staring pressure to be set to 6 and now, that feeling of not being able to breath is all but gone. As I've read many times here - once you find that optimum pressure for you, it's actually very comfortable to breath, even a pleasant experience! All I can say is hang in there - and to echo grayghost if you provide specifics of what you've tried so far and what machine/pressure settings you are using, there are many people here that will be able to help you out with the transition.

Re: Feeling Discouraged
Are you aware that you can try masks from Cpap.com x 30 days for a small return fee?
When you do try different ones, do you do it lying down? Your face changes a lot then so it's important to do it that way - certainly for full face masks.
Have you considered trying out Padacheek.com liners - they help seal leaks, keep red marks off and generally help with fitting.

Re: Feeling Discouraged
I'm on my second and a half week testing and trying several brands of machines and have trimmed down my options to either the Remstar pr60 or Apex ICH.
In the process I have tried several masks. It's really a trial and error kinda thing until you get to try the best and most comfy for you.
In my case, for the first 2 weeks, I found myself subconsciously removing my mask around 5 in the morning. I still don't know why. But it guess it's either the comfort level of the mask or I'm suffocating from the pressure of the CPAP when I'm no longer in deep sleep. Is that even possible ?
