Is Auxillary Humidification Available?
Hi Folks,
Have mercy on me and put on your thinking caps. My mouth is dry- I mean ZERO moisture. During the day I'm fine. I have a cpap machine with a humidifier. No matter what setting I use, within a few minutes ALL moisture is gone from ALL tissue in my mouth and throat. I sometimes have the humidifier raining on my face but it makes no difference. A few tid bits- I wear a full mask. My cpap setting is only 8. When I DON'T use the cpap I still get the dry mouth but slightly better.
I'm a mouth breather and snore loudly. I keep the cpap machine off to improve the dryness by 10% but snore loudly and drive my wife crazy- Why would NO cpap (and therefore NO humidification) make my mouth slightly less dry. I also use a room humidifier with visible mist output right over my head- it puts a gallon of water into the air above my head in 8 hours.
Is there a secondary or auxiliary humidifier to add to the existing one on the machine?.... Something like this- http://1800cpap.com/fisher-and-paykel-h ... gQodeDoHJA
Help!!!!!
Thanks,
Bill

What brand of machine are you currently using?
Are you using a heated hose (if available for your machine)?
What humidity setting are you currently using?
Do you take any meds of any kind? If so, what are they?
The F & P HC 150 stand alone humidifier can be added in line to most machines to maybe help with more moisture but it kinda depends on what machine you are using.

Re: Is Auxillary Humidification Available?
why can't you just buy a stand alone humidifier for your bedroom?

And you might want to ask your MD about Sjogren's ("showgrens), which is related to arthritis (but you don't have to have arthritis to have it) and dries your mouth, eyes, etc.

I don't have a heated hose- never heard of it
I have tried all settings 0 thru 6
I do take Klonopin ( a benzo) and Trazadone. Regarding the meds- If I take the meds and stay in bed only one hour (while the meds are still in my system) the dry mouth goes away as soon as I leave my bed so I don't think its the meds. This dry mouth problem has been going on for 6 months. I've had the machine for 7 or 8 years- and I have been on these meds for 12 years.
Re: Is Auxillary Humidification Available?
Some people simply will find out that their mouths dry out more easily (and worse) with the mouth breathing when using cpap. Even with the full face mask and the humidifier maxed out. We see that complaint all the time here on the forum. Often adding one of those products designed to help with dry mouth (like Biotene dry mouth products) is enough to cover the situation.
You can use that F & P HC 150 humidifier along with the M series humidifier...that part is physically doable.
I asked about the heated hose because some of the newer models (newer than your M series) have a heated hose available where they can perhaps have a little more customization of the humidity delivery. That heated hose would NOT be able to be used if someone added the HC 150 because heated hoses have to be connected to base model and with the HC 150 inline that can't be done...since you aren't using one..doesn't matter to you.
Maximum humidity setting on the M series machine I used years ago was the setting of 5...so the settings that are less would stand an even less chance of helping your dry mouth issues.
So...yes, you could try adding the HC 150 after your M series humidifier..that's easy to do with just a short hose coming from your existing humidifier to the HC 150 then you add your regular long hose.
Will it solve your problem? That's going to be an unknown until you try it. I know one other person who has done this with their Respironics machine and it did help to some extent.
So I can't promise it will fix your problem but to answer your question in regards...can it be added.... the answer is yes and very simply at that.
You will need to max the setting on both humidifiers most likely to stand any chance of helping and with that amount of moisture in the hose you possibly will have condensation issues in the hose but those can sometimes be resolved with a hose cover or increasing bedroom ambient temperature.

Re: Is Auxillary Humidification Available?
I added a HC150 to my system and It solved the issue of dry mouth.
Here is a link to external humidifier design:
Here is my setup to solve this problem
Your will need to purchase the following:
HC150 external humidifier
Hibernite heated hose.
And likely you will need to wrap all the hoses to keep rainout to a minimum. After the picture was taken, I did just that.

Re: Is Auxillary Humidification Available?
I tried just about every dry mouth moisturizer preparation on the planet. The only one that did anything to prevent dry mouth all night was this Orajel Dry Mouth Moisturizer Gel product. Sometimes it's in drugstores and sometimes not:

Dentist.net has fifteen percent sales every month or two... there's one this weekend. Don't get it mixed up with their cold sore gel. Sjogren's is definitely something to check out as a precaution.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
