I'm finally starting to sleep, but...

Post by judylc » Thu Apr 28, 2016 7:42 am

I'm finally starting to get used to this mask and to be able to fall asleep and stay asleep without a sleeping pill! However, I am still having a few problems. First, for some reason I am still not waking up feeling refreshed. I guess I just thought that I would see and feel a big difference and I don't yet. I'm still yawning throughout the day and having difficulty waking up. Also, not quite as troubling, but a nuisance just the same, I have mask marks on my face that won't go away. Sounds vane but when you are 50 and have enough wrinkles you don't need to add more. I don't feel like I have the mask on too tight, when I leave it too loose it leaks. Just thought maybe people might have some thoughts and/or suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Go to Padacheek.com. The owner, Karen, is a member here. If she doesn't already make padded straps for your mask, ask and she will devise some for you.

judylc,

Good for you getting off the sleeping pills. I'm still trying. I'm in a similar boat to you. Been on the mask for about 4 months and just starting to get 6-7 hours per night after some pressure adjustments vs 2-3 previously. I'm waiting for that burst of energy or even just a sign of feeling refreshed when waking up. I wake up exhausted and it pretty much continues throughout the day. Hope the positive effects come soon for you.

It may be time to take a close look at the graphs in Sleepyhead. I was having great AHI's but still not feeling very refreshed with sleep. When I looked at my graphs I could see that the pressure--although it was taking care of apneas--was flat lining at the top. That meant it really wanted to be higher. So I raised my top pressure by just one cm/H2O and it really helped. I'm not saying that's exactly your issue, but the data may reveal what is going on and suggest some tweaks to improve your quality of sleep.

Agree with Janknitz. Take a look at your data and see if your therapy is optimized. I've had some aha moments during treatment. Usually right after an adjustment to the settings that lowered my AHI. Didn't start feeling consistently better until I had gotten that number down to 2.0 or lower. You could be paying off a huge sleep debt, especially if your condition is severe. Some say it takes them six months to a year to feel consistently better. Sadly, some claim they never do.
