First Night with Dreamstation & Pillow Mask, Sore Nose

Post by kritoke » Thu Apr 28, 2016 4:24 am

Did my first night with any kind of CPAP machine last night. My nose is a bit raw from the AirFit P10 pillow, but slept well once I did finally fall asleep. The dream mapper software says I hit an AHI of 3.9, no air leaks, my sleep study said I had an AHI of 47. Mouth isn't dry, though initially it felt like I had a saliva factory when trying to sleep with the thing on. It was set for 8 cm pressure, but since its an autopap, it actually ended up using about 9.5 cm for the avg pressure. Curious if the padacheek cozy things for the barrel will help at all. I've read different things online saying to stay away from any ointments that could have petroleum in it since it impacts the silicon, anyone have a recommendation on what I could put on the nose? I do have a bit of a beard and mustache, not sure if that is impacting it as well. Any recommendations on things to do to prevent further sore noses, or is it more of an acclamation thing that goes away once my nose gets used to it?

Yes, I tried the recommended ointments but didn't get much relief until I got my barrel cozy, love it! No more red, peely nose.

I ordered one earlier today, hopefully should help. Seems people swear by the padacheek stuff.

Your mask may be too tight. Follow the directions in my blog signature below for the "Swift FX fitting Tips". Even though it's not a Swift FX, the same fitting principles apply.

Some lanisoh (nursing nipple cream, found where baby supplies are kept in your local drug store) or some Ayr gel can soothe your nose in the mean time.

Barrel cozies help in two ways--a little cushioning for your nose, and also they can keep help regulate the temperature of the machine air meeting your exhalation to reduce rain out in the nasal pillows themselves. I hated waking up with a wet nose because the air from my machine was pretty cold and the air from my nose was pretty warm.

There is very little adjustment for the Airfit P10, you either move the second strap to the top or move it to the back, thats it. They have a tendency to get over stretched, so I don't want to mess with doing that too much. They do now make these things that help you pull them tighter though if it does get to that.
