Newbie here...first good night's sleep in a long time.

Post by weirtoo » Wed Apr 27, 2016 2:31 pm

Hi everyone, first time posting here. You've all been such a wealth of knowledge to me over the last month during my APAP trial. First in-lab sleep study showed moderate sleep apnea with 17.5 events/hour. No centrals, just hypopneas and apneas. Dr. prescribed PAP therapy. DME gave me a ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset for her. I'm using a ResMed F10 mask because I mouth breathe.(I'll add these to my profile tonight) I was determined to be successful with this therapy. I was able to average 10 hours a night with the pressure set from 4-20, but it seemed everytime the pressure went up, I woke up, so my sleep was very interupted. I returned to my sleep Dr. to arrange a titration sleep study, that was last night. I slept like a baby! Tech put me at a constant pressure of 12,(which is right about where I was running for average pressure according to sleepyhead) and it was wonderful! For some reason, I do better at a constant pressure. So now I know that a restful night's sleep is possible again.
This excites me way more than it probably should. lol So, when I see my Dr again on Tuesday, he will increase my pressure and I will be on my way to feeling much better.

Hopefully, the increased energy will allow me to exercise more, which in turn will help with the weight loss(I'm 5'5" and weigh 216), so I could stand to lose a good 60lbs. But I currently don't have the energy to work on it.

Anyhow, I just wanted to pop in and share my good news and to thank you all for all of your helpful information.

Don't be afraid of the Auto mode. 4-20 is set wide open not a good starting point. When it is under 6 most will feel suffocated. After you have had a few good nights of the current prescription, look at your results in SleepyHead. You may find a range of 7-15 treats you better, but look at your results.
