I am a relatively new CPAP user. I have a mask that covers my nose. Air leaks are rare. Sleep time is relatively steady around 7 hrs. BUT, the AHI results do not appear credible. Temperature bath is set to maximum. My normal AHI result is around 8 yet I have nights (maybe 15%) where AHI peaks between 20 and 30. This does not seem logical. Any comments would be appreciated. This is my first post.

Re: Variable AHI Results
If your machine works with sleepyhead, I would suggest downloading that. It will show you what's different on the worse nights. But an ahi of 8 isn't great either(below 5 is the goal), so it might show you how to improve your numbers over all as well.
Depending on what your machine is,there's different settings you can adjust. Things like what mask you use matter too. It might be some nights bad leaks are distorting your numbers, or your allergies or sleeping position are worse. Everyoen h's random bad nights as well though.

We need to know the make and model of your machine. Some machines record very detailed data that can be used to troubleshoot issues like yours. Others do not.douglaslangley wrote:I am a relatively new CPAP user. I have a mask that covers my nose. Air leaks are rare. Sleep time is relatively steady around 7 hrs. In particular we need to know whether your machine classifies the apneas that it is detecting as obstructive apneas (OAs) or central or clear airway apneas (CAs). The advice on what to do depends on knowing what kind of apneas your machine is recording.

Doug: The first thing you need to do is upload your specific machine and mask that you are using to your profile. Then the folks here can tell you whether it is compatible with Sleepyhead software or not. If it is, you will be able to see and upload a wealth of information about what is going on while you sleep. We may be able to help you tweak your settings to get you better results. An AHI of 8 or higher is, as someone else said, not great. I felt temporarily better when I first started treatment, but didn't feel consistently better until I had tweaked my settings enough to routinely get AHI's of 2.0 or less. Everyone is different, but most people feel better with consistent treatment at AHI's of 2 or less.douglaslangley wrote:I am a relatively new CPAP user. I have a mask that covers my nose. Re: Variable AHI Results
It took me nearly two years to get below 5 AHI consistently.

Yes it does.........with an improperly/poorly configured machine.douglaslangley wrote:I am a relatively new CPAP user. I have a mask that covers my nose. Air leaks are rare. Wide-open APAP settings or too low straight pressure settings. Too much humidity has been known to escalate AHI numbers. High leaks can skew the numbers and contribute to inadequate therapy. And, if a bunch of those events are Central, that's another issue you need to address.
As soon as you answer some questions and fill in your profile with ALL of your settings and post some reports, maybe we can take some educated guesses what your problems might be. But, without any information, it's impossible to offer any advice.
