First power outage

Post by Hornnumb2 » Thu Apr 14, 2016 3:53 pm

Well a thunderstorm blew through the other night and lost power for about an hour. When the power went off i was awake from the thunder and pulled the mask off but then the 960 started beeping. I listen to it for a little bit thinking it would quit making noise but finally had to get up and hit the button...

You got lucky, wind took us out 2 weeks ago, wasn't so lucky 48 hours 3,000 people affected. First night stayed up all night, second night stayed at a house that was unexpected dog sitting. Not fun changing your routine spell folks set in their ways. One good thing came out of it slept in a bed with a new pillow fell in love with a pillow went out and bought two of them.

Got lucky two freezers lasted OK, half a cow! Lost some food in the fridge about 40 dollars. It doesn't happen often here, most times 6 hours and they have it fixed. Jim

I use a power outage alarm to make sure I don't sleep with the CPAP not running. You can get one for about ten bucks.

You've just mentioned my biggest issue/fear with the system. Stuck with a mask on with no air going to it. Sure it has a small hole to still breath through, but will it work?

I find that if my cpap stops working, I notice within seconds. If you want reassurance, buy some of these Power Fail Alarms: http://www.amazon.com/Powerout-Power-Fa ... 00PUQILCS/

They are cheap and will sound an alarm if the power goes out and they are always charged because you leave them plugged in. I leave mine plugged into the socket in the bathroom.

You are perfectly safe...The Quattro (and other FF masks) have an anti-asphyxia valve (sp?) to allow breathing with the CPAP off.

Not sure why you would buy an extra alarm, when the power goes off the pap beeps at you.

Mine doesn't make a sound, no power no machine, but I wake up almost instantly. Get up go to the recliner, if it lasts a long time and I need to sleep I turn on the generator. Kind of over kill but if I need to sleep I need to sleep. One day I will get a battery option

No it doesn't - it can't! Where do you think the power to beep comes from? CPAP machines will beep if they detect certain error conditions or excessive mask leaks, if they are set to do so. But they can't do ANYTHING without power.

I would be more than happy to take a video for you, to prove you wrong. If you just unplug it will not set an alarm but with the machine running and unplug my 960 has a beeping alarm, yes with no power plugged in.

I experienced my first power failure last night.

It was only for 5 minutes and I only found out about it when I uploaded to Sleepy Head this morning. I slept right though it!
I only was able to confirm it when I saw the time on the microwave flashing!

The emergency valve must be working fine!
