Cpap bag size for FLIGHT
Cpap bag size for FLIGHT
I lost the travel bag that came with my cpap when I bought it
My cpap machine is 10.5 inches long and the bag I bought is 15 inches long.
Will airport security let me fly ?

Re: Cpap bag size for FLIGHT
Check with the airport. Cpap is not considered normal carry-on tho', so it might not matter, but you need to ask them about it.
Re: Cpap bag size for FLIGHT
Yes, just let security know it is a CPAP and I also printed the medical tag to place on my bag. It would not hurt to print the letter that is on the forums here that show medical equipment is allowed and not considered extra baggage just in case. Do a search here in forum.cpapdude2 wrote:

If in the USA, the TSA rules apply to all airlines. CPAP is medical equipment. It can not be separated from you. It does not count against your carry on allowance. As long as it fits in the overhead or under the seat. http://www.tsa.gov
You can also carry on distilled water for medical reasons.

This is the first time I've seen mentioned that distilled water can be brought on a plane. Can I just pack a small, sealed bottle in my CPAP bag? Is there a procedure I should follow, or paperwork I need?

@ QueSera:
It depends on the training/intelligence/attitude of whatever TSA officer you get on that day.
Some of these people only show up to ruin people's vacations.
You can try, but don't get too upset if they toss it. Just use regular bottled water at your destination.
It's OK. Just means a little extra washing. No biggie.
Some sites sell specially labeled bottles for cpap water--expensive--what a racket!

Distilled water for cpap is considered medically necessary liquids. It can be brought on in "reasonable quantities" and does not have to follow the 3-1-1 rule. The Tsa can inspect it. You are allowed to carry it on. I would just fill up a water bottle with it. Go to http://www.tsa.gov and search "liquids".

You need to tell the TSA officer you have "Medically necessary liquids".

Re: Cpap bag size for FLIGHT
If you have a spare bag, it makes a nice carry-all for snack and drinks "for the road".

Re: Cpap bag size for FLIGHT
Of course, the "medically necessary" quantity of water needed for a CPAP you won't be using in flight is zero.
I also read here long ago, but cannot confirm, that the TSA rule excluding a medical bag from the bag-count assumes the bag contains ONLY the medical equipment. One therefore (if this is true) can't stick a small CPAP into a large piece of luggage containing other stuff and demand it not be counted.

There is no medical necesity for distilled water. It it a total waste of energy to haul it along unless you are going someplace where there is no drinkable water. Just use tap water.
