Need advice re hybrid

Post by lynn » Sat Mar 26, 2016 10:45 pm

Hi, Been on CPAP several years, have been a big fan of Resmed P10 nasal pillows, with the need for a chinstrap due to air leaking from mouth. Lately, leakage has been worse even though my AHI was still at 1 or 2 and the maskfit icon was smiling.
So I am now in the first few days of trying the FF Amara View. The first night gave me extremely dry mouth with AHI of 25 even though the mask fit had a smiley face. My number is NEVER that high. So I used it with a chinstrap 2nd night and decided to up the pressure to 10, just for kix. AHI was better at 18 but still crazy high, for me. Hubby said it was very quiet, however, compared to my gurgling with the P10 For night #3, I lowered pressure back down to 9, used the hated chinstrap, and in the morning, machine said my AHI was 9. The trend is good, but....
I really HATE THE CHINSTRAP! And what happened to my nice low AHI numbers??? So can you guys tell me whether the Hybrid masks, which with the chin cup say they do not require a chinstrap, really work without one? I just can't stand waking up to dry mouth all night long. I am ready to try the Innomed Hybrid
this one: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/RespCa ... -Mask.html
and if that one doesn't work, I'll try the other extremely expensive Resmed Liberty. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html

Can anyone give me some advice on either of those (especially whether they work without a chinstrap?). I haven't visited this forum for at least five years or so as I've been on cruise control. Know there are great people here for advice. HELP! Thank you!!!!!!!! Happy Easter!

If you look at both on Cpap.com under masks - full face, you'll see loads of info, lots of pix, reviews and more.

The resp care hybrid is what I have used for 6 years. The chin cup really works for me. I do need an extra strap of lingerie elastic across the pillows because I have this small upturned nose that is at the wrong angle.

The great thing about this mask is that it comes with 3 different sizes of nasal pillows and three different size of mouth pillow and three different strap adjustments. That is also the worst thing about the mask Because fitting it is a totally pain but once you have it set it is marvellous mask. Unlike some other masks the pillows don't die in a month. I am on my second mask.

I tried various combinations of the hybrid mask, but could never get a good seal. I now use the Amara View and a soft cervical collar. The collar keeps my mouth closed and I never have dry mouth any more. The collar felt odd the first few nights, but now I hardly notice it.

There is a whole page dedicated to fitting the hybrid on the wiki
wiki/index.php/Hybrid_Mask_Modifications

(note the mask pictured isn't a hybrid but the adjustments do work)

I tried the Innomed Hybrid Mask. I had to cut off the chin cup...I have a long chin and it just did not fit. I liked the mask except for one thing...the way the hose attaches. Any pull at all from the hose makes the mask move. At some point in time, I plan to try the Resmed Mirage Liberty even though it is a little pricey. It may have the advantage over the Innomed because of the better headgear clips and an a small extension hose similar to the Amara View. Of the Amara View and the Innomed, I prefer the Amara View for comfort and the Innomed for the best seal.

This thread is relevant to my interests as I came to post a thread to see if anyone has had much success with hybrids. Nasal pillows work for me but I have big issues with mouth leaks that a chin strap doesn't stop. I end up with a fairly ridiculous mouth taping procedure that is getting old, quick.

THANK YOU, all, for great advice and information. I am going to order the Innomed Hybrid today to give it a try, and I am also going to look for a cervical collar to try with the Amara View which I still have on trial for another 25 days or so. I really do like the Amara View a lot, and it's fascinating to me that there is nothing over the bridge of the nose, nor any pillows but I get a great seal just with that opening in the mask that fits under your nose. Amazing. And btw, my AHI is getting better with it - down to 5.2 this morning. Still not the usual 1.5 or so, but the P10 just isn't cutting it for me anymore, sadly.

Okie, do you have a link to the type of cervical collar you use with the Amara View?? That sounds like an interesting solution that I am going to try.

I will stop in at a new medical supply store in our small town to see what collars they might have. (It used to be the liquor store LOL) Or Rite Aid?

I appreciate you all so much. Knew it was a good idea to come back here to the forum.

I've used that mask with a soft cervical collar for many years. The combination works great for me.

I also use Orajel for Dry Mouth.

Lynn, this is the collar I'm using with the Amara View: http://www.amazon.com/Futuro-7001100082 ... 0057D84M6/

It made a big improvement in my aerophagia, and I haven't noticed any dry mouth problems either.

P. S. My AHI with Amara View last night went up again to 13.2. I wonder why that is as the mask fit is smiley, and hubby says I am so much quieter. Any ideas? My pressure is 9, I tried 10 and it was worse by just a little. I've been at 9 forever, since my two sleep studies. I want my 1.5 back.
