Using Provent for traveling?

Post by OSAdude76 » Sun Mar 27, 2016 1:15 pm

I just spent the last hour or so reading about Provent, the nasal device that claims to be a substitute for CPAP. I don't think my search was exhaustive, but it seems like Provent can be somewhat effective, but isn't as good as CPAP. It can cut the AHI in half in most people, but of course CPAP can get it pretty much to zero. Also, the pressure Provent produces doesn't appear to be too high, so it might not work well with those that need higher pressures.

I'm hoping to get some more information on this because I'm considering buying a pack for traveling. I plan on going to South America for about a week and lugging around my CPAP doesn't sound fun because I'm hoping to only pack a backpack. My OSA is moderate and I use a pressure of 8. I was considering just not bringing my CPAP as I don't sleep much when traveling anyway, but Provent might help me get a better rest when I'm actually sleeping.

Does anyone else have some thoughts on using Provent for short-term use?

Thank you!

Are you aware that you'd need some time to adjust to them before travelling - week or two?

One week of misery will tell you ALL You need to know.
Provent's marketing is EXTREMELY optimistic.
I could go into more detail; but forum rules discourage profanity.
Unless you have slept with Provent for at least a week, bring the cpap along.
Especially if you are hoping to enjoy yourself.

You've got to breathe from your mouth while you fall asleep and close your mouth and sleep after you fall asleep. I'd say the odds of me doing this would be fairly low, whether or not it would actually work.
